Yipee! I finally caught this on video! I always knew he could do it! It ain't the greatest quality video, since I was experimenting with a new camera. But hey, at least I caught it! I was whispering since my husband was in bed.

The second part of the video shows you why he can do this. His paws are huge!

Why am I excited? I think (but not certain), that this may be a first on video. I have always known that my boy was special. But now I have proof!

BTW, does anyone truely know how to reduce shiny cat eyes while filming? Oh, and maybe I can try to get a better video some day. Perhaps during daylight.

What a beauty!

I had a main coon mix once, he was do smart. He would open the cabinet doors, so we got the baby proof latches to keep him out.

He figured out how to open them in about two days.

One of our cats has norwegian forest cat in him and he loves playing with pens, sit at a table with him on your lap and a pen by the edge of the table he'll try and grab it and drop it onto the floor, so perhaps theres some kind of genetic thing about those sort of cats and pens?

That's cool

I have a maine coon mix.. I don't even really like most cats. My girlfriends roommate found him in the road when he was about 2 days old. Had to bottle feed him for weeks.

He has like 30 different sounds he can make.. I can tell what he's saying. He even has favorite colors (he likes pink and gray together). He likes artwork that I have made too. He used to like typing on the computer, and he did the dog head turn "buurr?" He looked down at his paws and looked back up to see how to make different symbols appear.

he knows and listens to the Commands Stay and Come.. He knows so many words haha. I can even tell him I'll get up in a few minutes to feed him, and he's like "ok" If he wants to go out he can ask by grabbing the door knob(he's really long). I take him out even though hes an inside cat and can keep control of him as we explore. He's not allowed in the road, and he's ok with that

He thinks he's a human, I guess I was his dad.. He never knew other cats till he got older.

Maine Coons are ridiculously smart cats. I love the little guy.

He hasn't learned to pick up pens yet though haha.

That's cool and now I hate you as I once again miss my buddy Diesal.
JK

Had to give him to some friends as at the time I had no idea where my life was going. I get to see him though from time to time. He always greets me and asks me questions.

Maine Coons are definitely the Gentle Giants of the domesticated cat world, and quite smart as well.

I'm a dog guy and always felt that Diesal was a dog in a cat body. He trained very easily on all the usual dog commands. I would tell him to sit and speak and he would do just that.

A 28 lb cat mewing like a kitten, and I would say, "No, Woof!", He'd mewl back. "No, Woof!", and on and on, until he'd cock his head at me and just stare. Probably thinking, "Are you stoned? I'm a cat."

lol I know right...

I call mine little wolf.. I'm almost surprised he can't bark.

It's funny when other cats try to mess with him, and get all hissy at him.. He just sits there starring at them like he's bored. Not going to scare an 18 pound wolf if you're a little tabby, haha.

Wow thanx for all the replies. You are all right, Maine Coons are darn smart, Just yesterday, my boy was sittng on a coffee table behind me. I was like 3 minutes late with his breakfast. He took his heavy stainless dinner bowl (sitting empty from dinner the night before) and pushed it off the table. I turned just as he was doing it, then I looked at his face and the big guy was beaming at me. All proud that he got my attention. I told my friends that he is such a prankster that if he could, he likely would have thrown it at me instead.
Maybe I better watch out now.
