These pics are only moments apart.

You can control the location of the lens flare. Try it today with her. If you're interested in seeing for yourself what's really going on here take some pics today. Changing the camera angle will allow you to put that lens flare down in the trees showing that it's not an object in the sky. Using the same camera and lighting conditions you should be able to reproduce similar lens flares.

Looks like a sun dog to me, OP. They can be the textbook kind people usually see-- the blobs opposite the sun, or just crazy bright spots.

Atopics.com would be a good place to look around for basic info. Actually, I think the Subparhelic section shows a very similar sun dog-type spot as your pic, although it's not the same kind of phenomena.

i looked sundog up on your site you referenced.

Sundogs are only 22 deg from the sun at sunrise and sunset...

OP says they were taken throughout the day. not sunrise/sunset. please try again.

They are certainly not sundogs. I have photographed sundogs dozens of times before, so I am very familiar with them.

Firstly, sundogs will usually be found 22 degrees away from the Sun - if not then they will be about double this distance, but that is quite rare to see.

In this case the distance appears to vary with each shot, which would not be the case with sundogs, although this might be due to "zooming".

Secondly, sundogs will be roughly level with the Sun, and to the sides of the Sun. These are below the Sun.

Thirdly, they look nothing like sundogs. They do however look and behave like "lens flares" - a lens flare will always change position in relation to the Sun's position in relation to the center of the frame. Ie if a line is drawn from the lens flare to the object causing the flare, the line will always pass through the center of the the frame. I don't have the time to do this, but I'm sure someone will be along soon to demonstrate this.

So even though the OP says they were seen (with the "naked eye") before being photographed, I'm having a hard time believing that that was actually the case.

I would say 1- 2 Hr's apart from the time she got to the school till she got a break. she only works about 4-5 Hr's a day ( lunch lady)
free school food for meee

If the photo's were taken 1 to 2 hours apart. Wouldn't the sun have changed position? The sun is in the exact same spot in all of them relative to the tree line. These photos were all taken within a very short time of each other.

P.S. It's a flare.

I just posted a tread about the artifical clouds in the sky and when I looked closer I had the same circle in my picture as yours just on the other side of the pic

"Artificial"?

It does look like a lens flare in your photograph as well (the small white dot), but you have also caught a common 22º halo.

Interesting photo - is it an in-camera stitched panorama?

I have a question here. What if, there is an other object between our Sun and the Earth. I suppose it can't be seen with open eyes, but for sure will appear in different positions against the Sun. However, since the object on the photo is bright mean that is a simple lens flare.

Granted, there are plenty of possibilities, including clouds, aircraft, invertebrates, birds, seeds, dust, meteors, etc, etc...

I'm not sure I understand what you are trying to say there, but a "lens flare" would fit that description.

I wouldn't say that because it's bright, that means that it's lens flare. Lens flare can be present in an image, but barely visible in many cases.

What I would say though, is, if you point a lens at a bright source of light (eg the Sun) and take a photograph, that photograph will almost certainly contain lens flare. Even expensive camera lenses are prone to flare under such conditions, and we are talking about a lens on a phone here.

So, if we can expect a lens flare to be in such a photograph, and what looks like a lens flare appears in the photograph, in exactly the position where you'd expect it to be in the photograph in relation to the Sun's position/the center of the frame - three times in a row - then I'd say the chances of it being a coincidence (some other random object other than lens flare) are very small.

its pretty awesome. Droid Galaxy II camera. panorama view. You click button once and the phone tells you where to move and it will snap the shots for you.

Yeah, very nice. I could use something like that myself for when it takes too long to set up a DSLR. Great for halos and arcs which can appear and disappear in the space of a few seconds. I'd buy one if I had the money, but there are things that have been on my "wish list" for a long time, that have priority.
