A Jelawat mystery...

This is from one of the most respected and experienced meteorologists in the world:

"both visible and infrared satellite images showed a very odd boundary extending north-northwestwards from the northeast side of the eye for about 50 miles. I've never seen any such feature in a tropical cyclone, and am a loss to explain what is going on"

Anyone have any theories about what might be going on here? I'm personally deep into meteorology and following storms, and am completely stumped.

One thing to keep in mind - one of the rarest things in nature is a straight line. What could possibly cause a straight line phenomenon in a storm of this magnitude without weakening it? It seems to me that this could only be caused by an external influence...

Not knockin' ya, but I just don't get it.

In both the visible and IR satellite imagery you can see a "straight line" cloud feature stretching from the top of the eye going to the left.

With the circular winds of a typhoon over open ocean, it is hard to explain how there could be a straight looking cloud feature.
