ISLAMABAD (AP) — The Pakistani Taliban announced Wednesday that they were giving a Cabinet minister an "amnesty," taking him off their hit list, because he offered a $100,000 bounty for the killing of an anti-Islam filmmaker.

Separately, a breakaway faction of the Afghan Taliban announced its own bounty for those behind "Innocence of Muslims," the film that has sparked deadly protests across the Islamic world. The group is offering almost $500,000 in gold.

AP

The Pakistan Minister was on the Taliban’s hit list but because he puts a bounty on films creators head they are letting him slide.

This is crazy but I guess it is to be expected.17.6 pounds of gold to anyone who kills him.

I wonder if this will make the news channels.

You reckon that's crazy?

Try this scenario...............

Film maker gets captured and beheaded (or what ever else tickles ones fancy)

In true Taliban style it is posted on youtube.

Suddenly the film gets mega-viewed, embedded and becomes a cult classic.

Talk about falling on your own sword - logic and lateral thinking is NOT a prerequisite with this crowd!

All the more reason we should continue to place bounties on the heads of these zealots who think killing in the name of religion is a good idea.

Ahmadenijad in his infinite wisdom is calling on the UN to adopt a world wide law that prevents people from speaking their mind on the prophet mohaamed, including calling on that law to be above national laws of nations who have freedom of speech.

Ironic these idiots wish to force their religion on people who are not Muslim....

I do not agree in killing in the name of religion.

The Muslim religion befuddles me it has to be one of the most violent faiths on earth.

I think religion is a form of insanity.

edit on 26-9-2012 by Grimpachi because: (no reason given)

Keep in mind, you are talking about a man from a region where the people have not been given liberty. Ever. It is a foreign concept to them, and legislating speech is a normal idea in their mindset.

When he made that recommendation, it was item 10 on a list of things he wanted to promote. The other 9 items were spot on. Read for yourself:

president.ir...

From his own website.

He isn't the madman we are led to believe he is. Not saying he should be renamed "Huggy Bear", either. Just that, when put in context, demonizing him seems a bit over the top. He is just a man from a different culture with different views. Having said that....it is not our problem that they don't like our free speech, or that they don't know the "sticks and stones" teachings we all received. I will not relinquish my freedom of speech. But will not wish him harm for disagreeing with me on the point.

If Ahmadenijad were serious about those reforms he would start with them in his own country as an example as well as confirmation he is serious.

However.....

He has not done those things.

1. By immediate reform of the regulations, the General Assembly, as the main pillar of the UN, must regain its true position as the manifestation of public participation in global management.

Coming from a country who is ruled by the Ayatollah and top clerics who are not subject to elections nor do they answer to the people.

2. The regulations governing the Security Council must be totally transformed and reformed in the interests of nations and justice, through the participation of all members of the General Assembly immediately.
Again Coming from a country who is ruled by the Ayatollah and top clerics who are not subject to elections nor do they answer to the people.

3. The progressive principles of equality and justice must be observed in the enactment and implementation of the law.
This coming from a country with no due process, sham courts, prosecution of those who speak against / dont agree with the government, public executions, killing of homosexuals, killing people who decide to leave Islam for another religion, etc etc etc etc.

4. The international community should hold occupiers accountable and should try to return occupied lands to their real owners, and the rights of nations should be upheld.

Hamas... Hezzbullah - not held accountible by Iran. Refusla to recognize Israel as a nation while advocating their extermination.

5. The principles of the prohibition of threats and the initiation of force in relations between states and the peaceful resolution of differences should be the basis of the rule of law at the international level.
Again coming from a nation who calls for the extermination of Israel on a daily basis.

6. The principle of sovereign equality of states should be observed. All the governments should have an equal opportunity in management cooperation, normalization, and decision making at the international level.
Except when it comes to Israel...

7. All governments should equally honor their international commitments according to international treaties and regulations.
Says the country who is violating the NPT / IAEA... Says the country that routinely executes children in violation of UN agreements they signed.

8. No government should abide by the rules imposed by the hegemonic countries.
Except when it comes to Russia / Chinas position and anything else thats in favor of Iran.

9. Legitimate and legal rights of states and nations should be respected.
Except when it comes to Israel... Except when it comes to Hamas / Hezzbullah....

10. Respect for divine prophets and celestial religions, the common heritage of mankind, should be under legal protection in all societies so as to control the hostilities which result in hatred and war between human beings and atrocities and to strengthen peace and convergence of the people.

Says the country who routinely kills people because they decide to worship / join another religion, or killing people who are a member of another religion (like the pastor).

Also coming from a country who calls for the destruction of Israel on a daily basis.

Dont get me wrong I like the ideas however its coming from a nation who is in violation of every single item he laid out.

If they ar that important then why does he not practice what he preaches?

It would take awhile to respond to your entire post, but to wrap it up nicely I will just point out that I am talking about Ahmedinejad, not the Ayatollah's. You are admitting that the Ayatollah's make final decisions in the country....not Ahmedinejad.

I think you see where I am going with this.....

....but I should be able to swing by later to clarify if you don't.

I am referring to Ahmadenijad as well.. I used the Ayatollah / clerics as an example of him saying one thing while doing something else entirely. My post takes his positions point by point and counters them with his actions compared.

He says one thing and does another.

If you want to respond point by point you can if you want..

Their version of governance works for them. The nation is thriving, and by any measure of government that is popularly used (that is, putting liberty behind safety) they are improved to 10/20/30/40 years ago. They are far, far, far better off than they were under the regime of the US supported shah.

No, they are not perfect. That is a high bar to set for any nation, and hypocritical of us to expect considering our own decaying notion of liberty. And i realize you could say, "Well, we aren't as bad", but that is just comparing one turd to another when they are both turds.

Regardless, the will of the Ayatollahs is beyond his control, and is irrelevant in this discussion.

2. The regulations governing the Security Council must be totally transformed and reformed in the interests of nations and justice, through the participation of all members of the General Assembly immediately.

Yes, coming from a COUNTRY, not a MAN. I was talking about Ahmedinejad, not the entire nation or the Ayatollah's.

I know, huh? Its starting to sound like he is also lambasting his own leadership for failures. But, once again, your issue is with the system he is charged with running, not him personally.

4. The international community should hold occupiers accountable and should try to return occupied lands to their real owners, and the rights of nations should be upheld.

Hamas... Hezzbullah - not held accountible by Iran. Refusla to recognize Israel as a nation while advocating their extermination.

Hamas....Hezzbollah - not "occupiers", but rather tools used in a proxy war that we have instigated. No, i do not find their methods acceptable. But I do have to remember that what I "know" about their actions are filtered through the eyes of government controlled media.

Regardless, this is once again out of his control. The only thing you mention that is within his control are his sentiments on Israel. And I do not completely disagree with him. The land was stolen and given over. The current nation of Israel is an occupying force, in my estimation.

5. The principles of the prohibition of threats and the initiation of force in relations between states and the peaceful resolution of differences should be the basis of the rule of law at the international level.

Again coming from a nation who calls for the extermination of Israel on a daily basis.

Are they mentioning the use of force? Or are they stating that they don't want Israel to exist, and to be replaced by Palestine? It is a warping of words to insinuate that they are rattling their sabres when they have made no actions towards actually driving a war.

6. The principle of sovereign equality of states should be observed. All the governments should have an equal opportunity in management cooperation, normalization, and decision making at the international level.

Except when it comes to Israel...

The existence of Israel is a denial of the sovereignty of Palestine, a nation that was "exterminated" at the end of WWII.

7. All governments should equally honor their international commitments according to international treaties and regulations.

Says the country who is violating the NPT / IAEA... Says the country that routinely executes children in violation of UN agreements they signed.

The latter is absolutely indefensible. But the US has blood on its hands in this regard as well, so lets reserve the shock and outrage just a bit, or risk hypocrisy.

The IAEA bit is more an infringement on their sovereignty. Those organizations are being leveraged by the US, who controls them, to pressure Iran. They are being used as tools against Iran. Why would Iran tolerate that?

Wouldn't you accept someone offering to level the playing field if you felt threatened?

Don't you, yourself, admit that he only executes the government he is provided by the Ayatollahs?
