Democracy is a Form of Oppression

The modern concept of “democracy” is perhaps the most effective form of human oppression ever devised. It has single-handedly convinced billions of people around the world that if only they cast their vote at each election, struggle behind their favorite politicians and pet political causes, they can change the world. And as each side of any given political paradigms struggles against each other, a singular agenda continues to march forth, one above and beyond “democracy” and the strategies of tension we’ve all been mired in.

This is a bold claim, because most people in the western world still regard democracy as the pinnacle of human achievement.
But what was once an ideal, the ultimate form of freedom for a society, has now degraded to what could be perhaps best summed up by this quote :

"America has gone from 'one propertied man, one vote; to one man, one vote; to one person, one vote; trending to one dollar, one vote". A. Michael Spence

To identify and align ourselves with one side of the political spectrum is something that is deeply rooted in our culture. But in fact are both sides, for a very long time, essentially driven and controlled by the same 'forces'.

No better can this be illustrated than in American politics where still, many people believe there is some sort of discernible difference between Republicans and Democrats. However, for example, from 2000-2012, we see a singular Western agenda of invading, occupying, dividing, overthrowing, destroying, and installing client regimes across the Arab World and to a lesser extent, across Southeast Asia and Eastern Europe. However, within that period, we saw two allegedly ideologically opposed presidents in office.

Most definitely, this is old news and common knowledge for anybody who's reading this right now, yet we still seem to fall back into the same old bi-partisan paradigm. Maybe we have to constantly remind ourselves who's actually running the show.

-Problem

The quest for American global hegemony began with corporate-financier interests during the late 1800′s and continues today. The policy we believe is born of our leaders’ political ideologies is in reality produced by these corporate-financier interests and the myriad of think-tanks they fund and direct. The policy papers these think-tanks produce, often published and even available to read online, are then rubber stamped into law by our politicians and sold to the public through the filter of false political paradigms.

The military, political, and economic conquest of the Middle East was sold by Bush under the guise of fighting the “War on Terror.” Under Obama, it was sold as “democracy promotion.” In reality, the policies dictating both legs of this singular agenda were meted out by think-tanks possessing both Bush and Obama-era administrators, often sitting around the same table, implementing the collective will of the their corporate-financier sponsors.

This is your real government; they transcend elected administrations, they permeate every political party, and they are responsible for nearly every aspect of the average American and European's way of life. When the "left" is carrying the torch for two "Neo-Con" wars, starting yet another based on the same lies, peddled by the same media outlets that told of Iraqi WMD's, the world has no choice, beyond profound cognitive dissonance, but to realize something is wrong.

-Reaction

The constitutional representative governance we believe we live under, or are attempting to restore, or in some countries, trying to establish in the first place, exists only in the figments of our imaginations. To truly manifest a representative government, driven by our own ambitions and our true collective interests, toward a self-determined destiny, we must begin locally, and we must begin with much more than simply casting a ballot.

-Solution

The real revolution will commence when we identify the above equation as the true brokers of power and when we begin systematically removing our dependence on them, and their influence on us from our daily lives. The global corporate-financier oligarchy needs us, we do not need them, independence from them is the key to our freedom.

Someone very close to me once said:
"Feeling powerless is a result of the effort that it takes to remain passive when we are confronted with the unacceptable. This effect is reversed the moment we start to act."

Just the word "democracy" is so sorely misunderstood in our culture that it makes me twitch. Try telling a full-on "Im a PATRIOT!!!!" type that they don't live in a democracy, but rather a representative republic and watch the reaction. It's funny.

i flagged this after reading the very first quote. been trying to get that point across to folks but this really does it a lot more eloquently than i could.

to me, the "vote" is nothing more than a "comment box". nobody really reads the complaints, and whatever the overlords wants to happen, will happen. its an appeasement tool.

Republic is even a misnomer. Republican structure, plutocratic reality.

51% vs 49% type issues shouldn't even be in the political arena if a country wants to remain united. Unfortunately it is exactly these polarized issues that keep folks playing the voting game/charade.

Yeah you right, this can be very frustrating, especially here on ATS. I hate to quote one of these people, but the thing is, it actually has a positve side.

Democracy IS a form of oppression. In a Democracy, mob rule is THE rule.

America is a Constitutional Republic, where the rights of the individual are protected and mob rule is (in theory) kept at bay.

Yet our voting system has become oppressive. Not because of its nature, but rather because our government has taught us only what it wants us to know (as they control education on all levels, and can declare some education a "national security risk" in order to censor it) so that e keep voting in ways they want us to vote.

It isn't the system. it is that we let the system run us, intsead of us running the system. Lazy complacent morons among The People are the risk.
