I have always wondered what would happen in such an event? Would it go nuclear? Would I still be able to buy an Ipad? Would Walmart go bankrupt?

All jokes aside..this is a serious issue. With events between China and Japan getting worse by the day, people need to really look at this issue. If conflict between the US and China did happen, it would shape the world's events on par with something like World War II. With the amount of advanced weapons the Chinese have, an American win would not be a per-ordioranded conclusion. What do you think?

Japan's economy flourished after their defeat in WWII.

I guess it would depend on who lost the proposed war, as to who would fare best in the end.

even though i consider such a scenario as unlikely as the Sun Rising in the West and setting in the East; i think it would be a short war...the world would be instantly destroyed and nearly all life would be extinguished in an flash.

the survivors would curse all they were taught about the world and the purpose and meaning of life and would instantly set out to forever separate themselves from the world that caused such an event; it would be as if none of us ever existed and this conversation never took place...no one would want to remember it, as doing so would be pointless.

imagine it...no popes or kings or philosophy or jesus or muhammed or academic learning or religions or written languages...nothing...the survivors would carry on like the fish or birds or squirrels and rightfully so.

and this is the way it should be...a U.S. vs. China war should be an affair completely unrestrained and no effort should be made by those with power and authority to mitigate the outcome...such an event would prove that human society is completely worthless and should be allowed to go extinct.

that being said...it won't be a nightmare scenario...it will be the end and none will have any memory of it.

and it should be that way...so if someone brings it up as a possibility they can be immediately identified by anyone that hears it as a suicidal maniac who should be ignored and avoided.

Subtracting the nuke factor its still a no contest, until China can handle logistics and beefs up their Navy. Their army is sitting ducks. US just needs to sit off shore with carriers and their support groups. Owning both the air and the sea you can pound targets throughout China at will from a safe distance.

Again people seem to see war through the eyes of a video game. What is the war over? What is the goal of a war between the two? If the war is over some islands that China wants to take then China is going to lose its navy and airforce and lose its enitre economy to a naval embargo. If you talking about a US invasion of China, not going to happen. If your talking about a nulcear conflict with China, China is going end up gone. Of course the US and China are not going to war. China needs the US to keep the waters ways free from trouble so they can sell stuff. China and Russia are far more likely to fight sometime in the future.

If you ever see the sun rising in the west...it's probably a nuke.

I actually saw that on a test once while in the Army.
To quote:

"You are facing west and see the sun rise...what do you do?"

If it ever comes to war with China, you can bet that your Government will be on the US side and as such will be a target as well.

As for moving to China, why would you want to move from one target to another? And getting there would be a bitch as well.

If I were in your shoes, the mountains offer the best hope.

War is when 2 parties fight each other and there will eventually be 1 winner.

If the US and China start fighting there won't be any winner, or survivors. So it can't be called a war, it would be an extinction event.

I have always had this vision in my minds eye, if the United States and its allies were to go to war with China. I see China draining large lakes to reveal airports filed with military aircraft totally outweighing the U.S. in numbers by factors of 10. This does not seem plausible honestly, but those visions are so clear and have lasted for over 30 years. This is probably not the case, but I would not be surprised if China pulled something out of their proverbial backside that was totally unexpected.

Lol@you guys.

China doesn't stand a snowballs chance in hell, of defeating the U.S. in a actual war. The U.S. hasn't fought an actual war since WW2. Every war they have been in was a limited police action. Not total unrestrained conventional warfare, like in the world wars, and every war before.

Chinas numbers don't matter at all, people die so easily to modern weaponry, not to mention chinas need to import large quantities of food to feed its enourmous populous. A simple naval blockade would end half their population in a few months.

This isn't even yet brining into account the very limited amount of modern technology employed by their military. Their airforce is a joke, not evven a particularly good joke. Their navy is the equivelent of north koreas, lol, maybe not even as good.

All that they have are a lot of people, which die easy enough from out of range of their counter attack, by almost every asset we have that floats or flys.

What I am getting at is that china and America can no more have an actual war, than the corn can fight off the combines that reap it. China is not even in Americas league, as far as modern warfare goes. They have no ability to bring war to the American shores whatso ever.

Nukes is the only realistic attack counter attack scenario for china, as they lack completely the ability to bring the war to America by any other means.

At which point there is no winner, the entire world loses all.

So an Amero/cino war ends only one of 2 wayhs. America wins hands down, or everyone loses. There are no other logical outcomes.

There are several factual errors in the above statement. The Vietnam intervention was not a police action, nor was it the Korean War (that now has been turned into a police action), there were others even Iraq 2 was no police action.

Even if we could extend the meaning of police action there would be still be problems with the statement...

the UN got us in both wars Korea and VN and was and is deemed a police action. History of war and war fair.
Do not underestimate China we thought the same thing back in '50 what could china do? China will use all they have to take what they want if they want it bad enough or if NKorea says we want the south, for that is not over, just in a null www.kmike.com...

china would never win in a war. they are too outclassed in terms of technology and training. the days when you could win a war by outnumbering your enemy are long over.

You do know Germany's Max Planck Society now has joint research facilities in China right?

China's getting more advanced than the United States....more research facilities.....more college grads.....

www.picb.ac.cn...

When Senator Webb came out awhile ago and said China was a threat with that deer in the headlights look....and most of America laughed.....the few people who knew what he was talking about paid notice.

China isn't a bunch of rice farmers anymore. Unless they get their plug pulled they will surpass the rest of the world in R&D.

I think if there was a world war between the US and china the level of technology would explode. We would have free energy overnight in every home, planes would be outfitted with anti-grav tech, so they never crash, cars would be made indestructible, everything would change again, just like in the fifties. We'd probably even get new TV, like hologram 3d projector HD lol. The government has made advancements over the last 50 years, some that are 1000's of years ahead of China, maybe even millions. You just won't ever see the edge of our incredible technology unless there is a reason for it. One reason may be a world war, but even that we wouldn't really need new tech. I think our hand would have to be forced like them dropping nukes from space, we probably already got that covered. I think the main reason for a war against China would be that it would improve the middle class standards in America. People would finally be able to feed their families with 1 job at a factory instead of 2 in the fast food industry, because not only would war factories sprout up, but everything else would too, because we wouldn't be importing goods from China. Come to think of it, war with China sounds great. Sign me up!

UN got us in both wars Korea and VN

That attempt to put the blame on the UN get not traction with me (and I hope any well informed person). The US controls the UN and will always seek UN support for any military action, if such support in not gathered by conniving, misleads and subterfuge (remember the spying on UN delegations or the lies about the WMDs) then the US will engage in clandestine proxy wars, interventions or even against the UN (so stated but so far we haven't seen that).

Korean War

The failure to hold free elections throughout the Korean Peninsula in 1948 deepened the division between the two sides; the North established a communist government, while the South established a capitalist one. The 38th parallel increasingly became a political border between the two Korean states. Although reunification negotiations continued in the months preceding the war, tension intensified. Cross-border skirmishes and raids at the 38th Parallel persisted. The situation escalated into open warfare when North Korean forces invaded South Korea on 25 June 1950.

The Soviet Union boycotted the United Nations security council, in protest at representation of China by the Kuomintang / Republic of China government, which had taken refuge in Taiwan following defeat in the Chinese Civil War. In the absence of a dissenting voice from the Soviet Union, who could have vetoed it, the United States and other countries passed a security council resolution authorizing military intervention in Korea.

Note that the US and the Soviets were already in a cold war and that the Kuomintang was supported by the Anglo-American establishment. The world was a bit different then...

Following the establishment of the People's Republic of China (PRC) on October 1, 1949, the commanders of the PRC People's Liberation Army believed that Kinmen and Matsu had to be taken before a final assault on Taiwan. KMT fought the Battle of Kuningtou and stopped the invasion. In 1950 Chiang took office in Taipei under the Temporary Provisions Effective During the Period of Communist Rebellion. The provision declared martial law in Taiwan and halted some democratic processes, including presidential and parliamentary elections, until the mainland could be recovered from the Communists. KMT estimated it would take 3 years to defeat the Communists. The slogan was "prepare in the first year, start fighting in the second, and conquer in the third year."

as for the Vietnam war I will not bother explaining how twisted it all was. I urge people to take a look into Ho Chi Minh indoctrination to see that Vietnam was an extension of the same process.

In any case what I'm attempting to impart is that the UN is a tool for international law that is mostly under US control and by a large part serves its interests. To make the UN a scapegoat for the mismanagement of the US (and allies) does not work anymore, not even internally in the US, the cat has been out of the bag for a while now.

See the Wikipedia's League of Nations to understand how the logic behind the UN works and how the distinctions in models highlight the core issues. It is also interesting to see and compare the powers behind the structures in relation to the times.
