The X-22A was a VTOL research aircraft built by Bell in the 1960's, you can go see it in a museum if you want. The claims about the X-22A being a
super-secret anti gravity craft were just over-excited misinterpretation of what a VTOL X-plane means that got blown out of proportion by a few idiots
on the internet with no real knowledge. Just like happens when contrails get called chemtrails

The prototype for the Raptor was the YF-22, you may be confusing the F-35, the progenitor of which was an X plane called the X-35, but this is the
only time this has happened. But as you rightly say, designations do not get re-used.
