I think there are probably a few things at play here.
First, lets not forget the habit the MSM has of chasing the same story. So, if they're looking for drama and the timing is right, what would have
been nothing more than a tag line across the screen for a few seconds becomes a "live updates" full-on headline story!
If there was no video, no protests and no fear of something, this story probably would have been nothing more than a late night "in other news"
mention. But because the media is hyped up and looking for a threat after the video protests they're blowing these things out of all proportion.
Then there's the second part of this that suggests there might very well be some deliberate hoaxing going on because of the video.
So if we imagine that there might usually be three scares like this across the USA in any given week, and they usually make the "in other news"
segments, there might now be four a week because of the video, and they'll be front and center because the MSM want to make a big deal out of it and
make it all more dramatic than it otherwise would be.
That's just my take on it.
