Last year, on September 17th, the Occupy movement was born out of the feelings of injustice, insecurity and frustration of many people who realized that they are on the verge to become slaves for a government who is totally disconnected from the people - and I am not talking only about the US government.
We all know the chronology of the events; some of us were directly involved, some of us suffered consequences and many of us supported the Occupy movement in a way or another.

The Occupy movement can be defined, IMO, as one of the most important social events in the XXIst century; it showed the world that not all of us are content with the life in a psychological and economic prison. The movement had a huge potential: at that time, it could change something. It didn't.
What started as a mass movement ended up as a pseudo-political primordial soup, mixing together social ideals with political agendas while these two terms, SOCIAL and POLITICAL are like water and oil: they cannot mix. You can shake the "recipient" as much as you like and they will always end one on top of the other.
Of course, the psychological warfare had its role in the Occupy movement's dissolution: disinformation, provocative actions, false rumors, labeling people/groups, turning social categories against each other... all of them were used with a relative success by the agents of TPTB. However, the big fault lies somewhere else: maybe on our side? Maybe we weren't strong enough to pursue our goals?
I remember some of the statements when the movement started; people telling that they will stay until they'll freeze or be beaten to death; people stating that they are ready to die for the movement ideals. Of course, nobody expected this; to die for an ideal (or for an idea) isn't always the best thing to do as it's sort of counter-productive. Humanity don't need martyrs; it's full of them already. What humanity needs is to find a way to break the chains and we're far from this.

So, it was September 17th, 2011. One year later, few of the participants tried to celebrate (celebrate??) the Occupy phenomenon by marching in NY and being carefully watched by the NYPD, some of them being arrested - being freed later.
But the question, IMO, remain: what happened to the Occupy movement? What happened to the ideas and ideals of so many people? One year later only few are remembering what was this all about.

Is the Occupy movement dead?
The TPTB won this battle?

I believe that the Occupy movement would have worked if the unemployment rate was up around the 70% mark.

Most people are tied to their job, and there weren't enough unemployed to make a difference.

Deader than a doorknob..Remember when this started last year it really was the evil NWO's masterful plan so that martial law could be enacted? Yeah, that happened

Movements fall apart under poor leadership. I also agree that people are tied to there job and can't leave to go occupy. The city i reside in now, we refer to as a trap. Most just make enough to survive, they couldnt move if they wanted to. System has been stacked against civil rights/political movements for quite some time. Hard to mobilize the forces you need. People wont occupy until the system crashes...too bad its too late then

Having no real leaders and no real direction (far too many issues under one banner) was always gonig to destroy it. In my opinion, i thought it lasted longer than i expected. After a week in the headlights, it felt like a circus show, a fade eveyone wanted to join, because it was cool.

I thought it was doing well when it was just OWS, but then it just got hijacked from all directions and became one giant mess where if you spoke to five people in the same group, you'd have gotten 5 different reasons why they were part of it in the first place.

Mind you, i see Occupy as the blueprint for future movements. It might be dead, but i still remember it well. Still remember seeing that kid in the packpack being picked up slammed by those pigs in uniform and the girls chatting in NYC being fenced in and pepper sprayed.

It really isn't much of a "movement", as it has no concrete ideas supporting it.

The mass protests back in the 60's and 70's, they had a point to make, and a solid one. End the Vietnam war, save this tree, etc etc.

The occupy movement has masses of unemployed getting together because they are bored and want to be a part of something. If you asked 10 random people one of the occupy protests what point they were trying to get across to others, you'd get 10 different answers. Half the time i'm sure you'd get a nervous laugh and a "Uhhhh.......", a free thinker trying to think of a reason for his presence.

Media had alot to do with it too, in a way. It didn't garner much in the MSM, thus it gave the occupy movement one of those "Look! See!? They don't want to notice us! Now we have to try even harder! Get all your unemployed friends out here too!" type group processes.

it mite be dieing out in America after they have arrested and bust there doors down there, but its growing in the uk ,
that's what gets me they say you have freedom of speech but then go round arresting the activists who's words and actions would not lead to the deaths of anyone ,

The mass media will resurrect the Occupy movement prior to the November POTUS election in an effort to further divide the country and aid the Democrats. Hey look at that I can predict the future!

We are the 99 Percent.

That phrase is now part of everybodys conciousness. The desire for non-slavery is always alive in the spirit of people, and they will act accordingly when the chance comes to change things. There is no movement for not being a slave. Its just liberty. And you would fight for it if you knew what it was worth.
