Coconut Oil Question

I've taken to making popcorn using coconut oil with beta carotene in it.

My question is: where is the best places to purchase this type of oil from in your opinion?

I can get it from Amazon. com, as it's $21.00 (USD) for 1 gallon. That would last quite a while since it only takes 3 to 4 tablespoons to cook a batch.

Was wondering if there are any local stores in your areas that sell this off the shelf. I've searched Walmart and other local grocery stores, and while I have found coconut oil, it doesn't have the beta carotene in it.

Just curious

if you have any ethnic markets in your area you may be able to find it. Places that cater to pacific islanders usually carry virgin coconut oil. Some chain supermarkets also carry it...again...check the ethnic foods aisle. I have gotten it from amazon as well because they usually offer it in quantities that they stores dont, like multipacks and gallon sized bottles. I love coconut oil and use it in my hair, in my soaps, and I cook with it. The beta carotene is a puzzler though....I will have to do some digging.

Up here, most health food stores carry it. The kind of store that carries all the vitamins and natural body care type stuff.

$21 a gallon is a good price. I saw a gallon in the store last week for $68, and it wasn't even organic!

I haven't seen the kind with beta carotene though...

Coconut oil with beta carotene in it is what movie theaters use to pop their popcorn. It's what makes the popcorn look yellow.
That and they add Flavcol (which I have plenty of and I think will take me 10 years to run out of, heh).

I have a Whirly Popper that I use on my stove (aluminum pan with a cover that snaps on, and you turn the crank on the handle, that turns the blade in the pan to stir the popcorn while it's popping.

I've made several batches, and it indeed smells, looks and taste just like the popcorn you get at the movie theater (without having to buy one of those $$ popcorn makers that you see there).

But I'm having to find a good source for the oil.

Ethnic stores here? Hahahahaha. I live in the southeastern US. About the only ethnic we have is Hispanic stores (which I frequent to make very good mexican dishes)
