PALMER PARK, Md. - Many people find speed cameras frustrating, and some in the region are taking their rage out on the cameras themselves.

But now there's a new solution: cameras to watch the cameras.

One is already in place, and Prince George's County Police Maj. Robert V. Liberati hopes to have up to a dozen more before the end of the year.

"It's not worth going to jail over a $40 ticket or an arson or destruction of property charge," says Liberati.

Liberati is the Commander of the Automated Enforcement Section, which covers speed and red-light cameras.

I'm all for dismantling a police state, but damaging property and then putting up more cameras. $30 to 100k to replace a camera, and $30 to 100k to put up a new one. Talk about driving debt.

Geez, this is going to get confusing.

Not confusing at all. Cameras to watch cameras that are watching the cameras until every square inch of the nation (including that part behind your front door) is covered by more than one camera. And then we will all be sooooo perfectly safe, won't we? In my opinion every camera erected in a non-national security area should be removed by what ever method is necessary. But that's just my opinion...

What I find most amusing is that they are using the citizens own money to purchase, install, maintain, and operate these cameras... but you can't have access to them can you?

I say all publicly funded cameras should have unencrypted feeds available to ANYONE.... after all it is your money.... and you can't be 'invading' anyone's privacy if "they" are not invading anyone's privacy right?

Or have they already 'erased' that logical aspect of the equation?

What if someone breaks into my house while I'm not home and hides in wait for me? Heck, might as well put a camera in every room of my house and tie it in with the governments camera data collection network so they can keep an eye on things for me. I'm so glad they are there to keep an eye on my bedroom.
