Sir Roger Moore: James Bond actor 'beaten up by first two wives'

Sir Roger Moore, the James Bond actor, has disclosed how he suffered domestic violence at the hands of two of his former wives.

In a candid television interview, the 84 year-old claimed his first wife, Doorn Van Steyn, whom he married in 1946 aged 19, repeatedly punched and scratched him and also threw a teapot at him.

The ice skater, real name was Lucy Woodard who died in 2010, also left him with scars and also punched his doctor as he treated him for a slashed hand, he said.

He told Piers Morgan's ITV1 show Life Stories that during his marriage to Squires, whom he divorced in 1968, he also claimed she hit him over the head with a guitar.

When asked if she physically abused him, he said: ''She would scratch me. She threw a pot of tea at me.

It is interesting that two of his ex-wives used weapons, which is quite typical of female to male domestic violence.

Still, if the roles had been reversed we could all laugh it off if Roger Moore had smashed a guitar over his wife's head, punched the doctor while treating her for injuries or assaulted her with a teapot?

You may have been 100% correct at some point in time. However, the law and juries are becoming quite keen on the double standard. Unfortunately, when the oppressed finally find freedom, the first thing on their agenda is to oppress their oppressors. Women have "gotten men back" a number of times - family law comes to mind. However, the truth has a way of bubbling to the surface. Cruelty from the hands of someone who is loved and trusted is always, always abhorrent.

I hope he has found healing over the years. And BRAVO to him for shining a light on this topic - so many men feel ashamed when this happens, and they shouldn't. If domestic violence can slam 007 over the head, it take a raging blankity-blank on anyone. And for the record, yes, I believe they should fight back.
