I happened upon this thread and it caught my attention as interestingly enough a couple of my firearm enthusiast, avid hunter, like things that go boom in general buddies were complaining that they felt like they were treated with suspicion any time they bought ammunition anymore of any kind. I asked about buying online and they both stated that they were leery of doing that as that automatically meant getting them on a watch list. I am in Iowa USA. I think deer outnumber people. We hunt here. I cant imagine what attention a simple purchase would draw in an Urban setting.

I've used Cheaper Than Dirt for years, but now there is a slight problem with how they are doing business.
If you order say 5 different caliber ammunition these days they will ship it from 5 different warehouses, which drives costs up at an insane rate.
Though they do stock most calibers, and their price is lower than just about anybody, at $14.00 per warehouse for shipping, they are pricing themselves out of the market.
Luckily I have good vendors in my area who carry just about every caliber I want, but I do have to order out for match grade ammo.
BTW, that cheap Russian ammo is actually some pretty good stuff, I've burned over 300 rounds of TulAmmo at the range, and have used TulAmmo in competition.
As an aside, it would be prudent to stock up on ammunition in each caliber or bore you shoot.
The skuttlebutt is carrying tales of restricting ammunition purchases.
I would suggest keeping at least 2,000 rounds per caliber you shoot.
Another little thought...what if T.S.H.T.F. tomorrow...can you guess what would become a good currency for local exchange?
I'm thinking 22 rimfire would be better than fiat currency, and is a very good little round to keep on hand for those times you might need to take small game (possibly in survival mode).
Another light ammo would be whatever your pellet rifle shoots. I have a 177 pellet gun that shoots at over 1,300FPS, and is a tack driver, it would be handy for taking small game and birds should the need arise.
Some people laugh at the idea of a pellet gun being a good fall back piece, but don't laugh too hard, during Revolutionary times the French had 50 caliber air rifles which were absolutely silent, and unquestionably deadly.
BTW another good thing about Cheaper Than Dirt, you can buy an AR15 upper and a stripped lower with a build kit, or an M4 lower (the ramps are a little different).
Even though there are several places on the net to buy parts for building many different rifles, my advice is to stay away from select fire or full auto weapons...full auto leads to a lot of "spray and pray" which just burns ammo and barrels, plus it takes one hell of a man to hump full packs and enough ammo to feed a hungry automatic.
If you really want a full auto piece maybe you should pick off an invader who has one...work from the rear of the column with your crossbow, or your Jibaroo blow gun...just dip your darts in Ricin (silent but oh so deadly) .

Creating a false shortage in certain areas, jurisdictions can artificially raise the prices based on supply and demand. Very likely it is happening....greed ;(, then again it could just be a shortage in a certain location. I like the way people are transparent on this site as to where you could still not only buy the ammo but at rock bottom prices online, kudos

I doubt the National Guard is buying up the ammo.
What were you doing looking for large quantities of ammo?
What is likely happening with this gun control legislation is people are buying up the large ammo in fear of the stores not getting any more in.
