Was just down there for vacation about 3 months ago. The Costa Rica TV link above appears to be showing the epicenter is actually inland? I don't speak Spanish so maybe that's something else. There's an active volcano or two close by also. The area is where most of the major beach resorts are in that country. Further to the south there are lots of smaller villages with residents living practically on the beach. Even a moderate tsunami would be devastating.

Just a question..maybe someone can help me here.

If you go to this website.. quakes.globalincidentmap.com..... and zoom in, it shows 4 earthquakes. Two 7.6's and two 7.9's.

USGS website is only showing one 7.6.

From my experience, the first link will delete some of those eventually. Do they just mark every possibility or was there actually 4 earthquakes? Each one shows a different depth, which to me means 4 different quakes. It also has three different times for each quake.

Is it just me, or have things really been rocking and rolling lately?
7.6 is quite big for central america

I done the same thing.
My guess would be that those are different measurement sites.
But i'm just guessing.

It looks like the quakes started at 20 miles deep and then proceeded down to 40 miles deep and then to 50 miles. So the top of the crust shook and then it moved deeper into the crust. Indication of large movement of mass.

Just my take.

Yea, this I know. But I'm asking about how many quakes there actually were. Why does globalincident show 4?

I ask because this happens every time there is a large earthquake. They show multiple quakes and hours later they get deleted. I'm not talking about downgrading the magnitude, I mean there are multiple earthquakes that get pushed down to one. Why do they report multiple ones?

I'm no expert in the matter, but it certainly appears to me that there has been a rise in seismic activity but I won't be offended if someone with more expertise on the matter corrects me. It seems the whole globe has been letting out a lot of stress recently.

That could be! I hadn't thought of that before, and I'm not sure how they get their data. I've learned in the past that they don't answer emails, so no use asking I guess.

They get their info from several feeds. If you look at the feeds, just pick one. Usgs.gov is better when you want to narrow down info.

It's extremely evident to me that activity has increased just as it was stated that it would.
I have been monitoring activity for about 3 yrs and the last 2 weeks or so has been the most active i have seen.

Me either. Its just very strange how many EQ's Ive seen around the Indonesia and Australia area. And now, to me, it seems like more activity on the central america region. This may just be that i recently signed up for the EQ alert status via email, but maybe not......its all part of the ring of fire isnt it?
