Wow it's amazing, the so calledd enlightened have no problem believing that burning a huge "figure" is "cool", yet they deny and mock the possibility of the god of love.
These people are looking for a purpose. It's the exact same thing with club kids.
A piece of them has died and they're trying to revive it.

I bet alot of these people claim they're atheists or non religious

Darkness is the absence of light. You will not deny basic physics now, will you?

I went to Lakes of Fire this year and it was a life changing event. Seeing people work together as a community, every body sharing, not paying for anything, and every one excepting every one for who they are and what they want to do. Its an amazing experience and I suggest any one who hasn't gone to a Burner event go to one. I will be going to as many regional events as possible and am looking forward to being on the playa next year. )'(

Communism is a noble concept on paper, but doesn't work simply because we're designed to EVOLVE. There will always be competition and rightfully so. The capitalist spirit has given us many products that make life easier.

What are you talking about? the burning of the man isn't just so people can see something "cool" its symbolic and means different things to different people. I wrote the names of all the people was going to not associate my self with and haven't sense they re names went up in flames. and whos mocking the possibility of a god of love? These people are actually living life the way they want to and not sticking to the ideological norm every one els does. and there's a difference between following a religion and being a spiritual person. Dont think negatively about people because you don't understand them or disagree with the way they live their life. If you went there no one would criticize you for your beliefs and they just want the same in return.

I am a celt and I know what these "festivals" are. Long ago, they were used in a different manner. They believed heavily in pseudo science and sacrifice for whatever "god" they were trying to court.
This isn't the 1200s anymore. We don't sacrifice humans and animals so the sun will rise the next day.
Yes it may be a profound and spiritual experience, but for how long?

Burning man events prove this statement wrong. But I never said that the govs of the world should be Communist. Burning man is for fun and I actually don't believe that type of society will work on a global scale, but thats what makes Burning Man events so special.

Well atleast you can read history and make the bold statement that communism doesn't work on the macro level.
This burning man though, you realize it's a religion right?

So what your saying is you know about ancient Celtic festivals, and nothing about Burning man. Im sorry not trying to be rude or mean but your view on this event is extremely skewed. This isn't an event about pleasing gods or making offers to them. Its simply an art installation and a place to go have fun meet cool people and be accepted for who you are.

Christians truthful?

Chrstians lie even to themselves about everything, is it any wonder people get annoyed when you constantly preach gospel to them and tell them of their wicked ways...

Christians don't want to offend, then leave god out of conversations, because to most, it is an annoying and boaring sybject.

For a lot of people - such an experience might be their first "profound" moment on the planet. How can that be a bad thing, no matter how short or long the feeling lasts?

The truth is people are hungry for an experience they can't buy in stores, or get at church. That's why BM is popular. People have to know for themselves what's out there before they can even begin to look for it.

I have personally attended Burning Man TWICE as an RV mechanic. While the art there is, in fact, breath taking, the people are not. It was one of the most disgusting places I've ever been.

The Black Rock desert is completely destroyed for at least 6 weeks out of the year with trash, hazardous human waste as well as chemical contamination. It takes the BLM at LEAST that long to clean the site up after each Burn.

The people who roll through Reno bring their drugs, criminal activity, and filth to downtown. This is something Reno residents experience EVERY year. It's not just one guy, it's thousands.
edit on 2-9-2012 by projectvxn because: (no reason given)

First the BLM does not clean up after burning man. Burning man cleans up after burning man.
The BLM pays nothing to cleanup after burning man but they pay $1000s every years to clean up after others not related to burning man.

There have been a number of cases (about 5 a year) where people steal cars and take them to the playa and jam the gas pedal down and watch to car disappear into haze/Night.

There was at least one $50,000 RV totaled when a unmanned car ran into it at night and it and the car burned to the ground.

That is why the ticket prices are so high and the Burning Man LLC that runs burning man PAYS for a cleanup crew. they also pay a setup crew and pay for the porta potties and truck to pump all them.

its illegal to leave human waste on even to pee on the playa. this rule does not even apply to just burning man but is a year round rule and the BLM cites 100s of people every year that are not there for burning man.

www.burningman.com...
afterburn.burningman.com...

if you are there for burning man you can use the porta potties, bring your own PP or RV or wear a diaper(i have seen this at burning man many times)

as for drug use yes there is a LITTLE but most is before and after burning man because there are a lot of LEOs with K-9s that patrol 24/7 at burning man
98% at burning man do not use illegal drugs its the other 2% that give it a bad name.
Quote]GERLACH/EMPIRE, Nev. (KRNV & MyNews4.com) -- Washoe County Sheriff's Office has released the crime citations and arrests made during this year's Burning Man event.

Thirteen misdemeanor citations (in lieu of arrests) for possession of a controlled substance (marijuana/drug paraphernalia) were issued. Seven DUI arrests were made. Four drug arrests and four warrant arrests were also made.

In the period between Aug. 22 and Sept. 6, Washoe County issued 472 traffic violations citations in the area of Gerlach and Empire.
This is out of 40,000 people that were at burning man.

So being a burner and knowing the truth i have to believe you are a troll and one of the group that tries to get burning man shut down by spreading stories. We know of a number of church groups, religious nuts and people banned from burning man that spread stories like this.

www.religiondispatches.org...

I have personally attended Burning Man TWICE as an RV mechanic.

Burning man does not hire RV mechanics and any mechanic that works on trucks can fix a RV as they are only the RV body set on a truck frame. the few that are not are $100,000+ rigs.
There are many mechanics that are burners that would help another burner with there problems for free.

I can guess you were one of the RV mechanics sent out by one of the RV rental places in reno and not a burner. and think burners are evil sinners or ECT ECT ECT.

"What happens on the playa, stays on the playa" was long used by Burners before the Las Vegas tourism authority ripped it off for their own marketing campaign
