Secret Service Detail Leaves Gun Unattended on Romney’s Charter Flight

TAMPA — A member of Mitt Romney’s Secret Service detail was removed today from a campaign trip after she accidentally left her firearm unattended in the candidate’s charter plane bathroom.

The agent in question left a gun unattended in the bathroom of the plane during a flight between Tampa and Indiana. The gun was found by a reporter on board who immediately informed the agent, who then went back into the bathroom and retrieved the weapon.

Now wait a minute. The SS just doesn't leave a gun laying around. On the job, and while protecting a presidential candidate?

The gun was left in the bathroom primarily used by media in the back of the plane. Romney and his staff sit in the front several rows of the plane and the candidate uses the forward bathroom.

And so which bathroom do the SS use?

DCpatriot posted this in my other thread, but the story was intriguing enough, that it deserves it's own post. Could this have been a foiled assassination attempt on Romney?

Why does a presidential candidate get a secret service detail? Google just told me Ann Romney has one too. Why are we paying for the protection of these people? They are not in the white house. And this man wants to curve government spending...lol. I thought he was a self made man. Him and his wife should have paid for their own security.

That is kind of a silly question...

The man is a serious presidential candidate who has served political office in the past, of course he would be provided protection. Do you think there are no crazies out there who would do harm to a politician?

After Bobby Kennedy was assassinated it became common practice for the secret service to protect presidential candidates.

Yea, they only get protection starting 120 days before the election so I guess I can go with that. But eh, he could have declined it and payed for his own security detail. Accepting protection on the tax payers dime while saying we should curve government spending is kind of hypocritical. Especially since he claims to be so self sufficient.

That would force (morally) the other canidates to do the same. That would be unfair.

Look at it this way. These agents were already on the payroll so give them something to do besides looking at counterfit bills at the local gas station. (yes that's their job too)

It also gives both the canidate and the SS time to get used to each others ways. Likely many of the agents will stay on with the man who wins.

Seems at least once a week some cop or fed just leaves a loaded gun in a bathroom, at a lunch counter, on the sidewalk, on the roof of a vehicle, etc....

It's okay though. They are highly trained professionals. God bless the "only ones."

Failed assassination attempt? No. Successful bowel evacuation.

I don't know how many times I have left stuff in the bathroom at home. She is human and it's sad that this has to even be news.

Yea I did see that these were field agents already employed. I just dont like Romney lol. But I do think if he did pay for his own security detail his popularity would go up. That would be a huge, actions speak louder than words.
