Hello there,
long time no see. I was away from the forum for a while, but now I am back because of a strange event. On 25th August, around 23:30 I was walking home, little bit depressed because of personal issues. I randomly looked at the sky and saw a red bright dot flying not as slow as a plane. I somehow realized that this isnt a normal thing and strangly feeled chilled and amazed at the same time. I beleive in Ufos but I am a skeptic and tend always to find rational explanation.
It was a very short sighting, lasted around 20 seconds. The red light slowly vanished during the flight, there was no light blinking, and it was not a flare I think, because of a constant speed.
I searched for some sighting reports, couldnt find anything except this video:
www.youtube.com...
I know it is a typical bad video and the guy has many ufo videos and seems that he is a Ufo enthusiast, but I think it was the same thing what I saw. Because of his angle (the town KARTAL is not that far away where I live but he is facing to another angle), the thing seems to fly slow but it wasn't. In the video it seems like it is blinking but I think it is a camera effect and the guy filming is sure that it is not a plane, and show a plane for a comparison. I felt happy to found this video and hope to see the same thing again. I will check tomorrow night again, since todiay is very cloudy.

Interesting video. I can't say much about your personal sighting as there is no video for it per se, but what you are describing sounds a lot what many other people are seeing around the world today. These orb like balls of light.

On to the video you linked. I think it's interesting. It appears to be traveling slow but when you watch the video at parts it seems like it is moving too fast to be something like a chinese lantern. When he zooms in there is no structure to the orb. It seems like the light is coming from the direct center of it and radiating outward. I would expect a chinese lantern to have more structure apparent when zoomed in out of focus or not you could probably tell that where the light source is coming from. But, in this video it seems like the object is glowing differently than a chinese lantern. Also the color is not red enough to me for it to be a chinese lantern.

I also like how the object doesn't really blink at all. I know you said that it appears to but I didn't notice it blinking at all.

Interesting video. Wonder what these orbs are. Interesting that it's flying over turkey. That area of the world right now is ramping up for some major drama. Maybe its a military type of advanced drone checking things out. Maybe the aliens have decided that earth is too hostile right now for their craft to be flying around it so they are sending drone like probes. Who knows.

Thanks for comments. But I think you are mistaken with Syria. Nothing serious happens in Turkey right now, especially nothing in Istanbul. It is really very very unlikly that it was a Drone or another military craft.

You bring up a great point. I was thinking more along the lines of a drone crossing over turkey on its way to iran. But why would it fly so low? probably wouldn't.

It still brings up the issue though that people all over the world are seeing the same type of glowing orb like UFO. Heck I even saw one (back in the late 80's ) in the Yucatan, Mexico. What are they is my biggest question.

Can you tell me if you heard any type of noise while you were observing the object. What was it's estimated altitude. ALthough it's difficult to tell what size do you think the object was? I ask because many people report seeing these orbs up close and that they range from basketball sized to car sized. The one I saw was flying 20 feet above the tree line and was about 15 feet in diameter. Dead quiet too. Glowed more of a reddish orange color, but was metallic behind the glow like polished aluminum or silver.

FYI, on that date the ISS passed over between 20:53:10 and 20:58;25....from the northwest to the southeast.

But it was really orangish red, and bigger than ISS.

20:53 what time? I saw it around 23:30-23:45. I am sure because, I was coming from watching a game

Sorry, after reading your OP again (while not on a conf call), I now realize the video in your link LOOKS like what you saw, but was not a video you took. I just want to confirm you are also in Istanbul....

Hi there...my first time on this site which I discovered looking for Istanbul strange light sightings. I also saw the orange glowing lights on or about the 25th of August. I was sitting on my terrace at about 10:30pm and the light came from ENE to SSW...it was definitely not a Chinese lanter, as the speed was too fast and consistent, and the light too bright. It was difficult to guage the altitude but I'd say lower than 200m. The light appeared constant (ie., it did not dissipate) but flickering (as, say, rocket exhaust) and maintained brightness throughout. This light was still glowing as the object travelled beyond the range of my sight.

Strangely, I saw two more tonight. I was sitting next door at my neighbor's, on their terrace, facing due east when all 3 of us saw the first light at about 9:05pm. Same as before, a glowing ball, not a lantern, travelling maybe 40-50kph, travelling basically from very nearly due East to due West. Then maybe 10 minutes later at about 9:15pm, another, same color, same speed, same altitude, same direction.

For all three sightings, I didn't detect any noise (not exactly silent in central Istanbul, so there very well may have been noise that I didn't hear).

Anyone got any ideas?

Hi deccal,

As you said you were not far from Kartal I immediately thought about chinese lanterns. Reason being, the people chilling and drinking in the Caddebostan embankment (which is also not far from Kartal, at least on the same driveway) have a recent trend where they light up and fly chinese lanterns in their nighttime picnics. You also said it was close to midnight so it's just the time when people are hanging out in the embankment. I hang out there quite often and I was out of my seat a few times thinking I was witnessing a UFO sighting until my friends pointed the guys prepping another lantern. Also the Sabiha Gokcen airport is not very far and something I noticed is that a lot of the planes landing there approach from the seaside (from where the Islands are) so you see the planes from the front with their "headlights". It looks much different and brighter than seeing a plane from the side (since their headlights don't blink), so that's another possibility. I have also seen some ships throwing flares in the night (probably drinking and partying as well and just going crazy with their #) one or two times in the night.

I should say I definitely believe in the E.T. visitation but there are a lot of visually misleading things flying in the sky in that region

Wow its been already 1 month..Time flies crazy...
I am glad another one saw it.
I don't think it was ISS. Can ISS reflect orange light? Maybe it can, I am not sure.
Well I remembered this thread, because since yesterday there are huge speculations about strange sounds heard in Istanbul. Lets see, will it be a mass effect or some atmospheric phenomenor, or something else

This guys videos may be chinese lantern, I just posted it for a kind of reference. But as the other guy said, it was too fast for a chinese lantern..and for a plane too. But unfortunatly no video
For the next time I have to be faster..
