Im very curious if anyone in the Mass., Rhode Island, Northeast area saw anything unusual in the sky last night. I was out when my daughter called me in a bit of a tiz. She said she was sitting in my yard with a friend when he asked her what that light was in the sky. She said it was very very bright,no flashing lights, larger then any aircraft, and was moving way faster then any of the airline traffic which she could also see as well. It left no trail so she ruled out metor as it wasnt moving quite that fast either. She in in the National Guard so it takes a little bit to shake her up. She also said it came from the Northwest and moved off to the South East.

We live near the Federal Hill area in Providence. She really was pretty excited about it. So, just curious if any other members saw something but didnt want to say anything.

Also just a note, I did check to see where the space station was at the time and it was no where near here and from what she said it didnt seem to be high enough for that and it was much much brighter. The time she saw it was around 8:45 pm est.

I see things like this all the time. Nw to Se and Ne to Sw trajectories.
Thousands of satellites up there that catch light from the sun.
The same exact thing the moon does.
At 18000 mph they boogie.
At times they can be extremely bright, could be an optical illusion?
Making it seem closer that it was?

Thanks for the reply. This is tricky for me because I didnt actually see it so Im going by what she said. The time frame seems pretty good. Was it odd enough to make you wonder?

and a note to the poster above you, my daughter just got back from Kuwait a few months ago and did a lot of guard duty at night. Shes pretty good at knowing what the satilittes are and how they act or look. She said this was larger and brighter than Venus is when rising in the morning, and also appeared to be lower in the sky height wise. Like lower in the atmosphere.

How high did it seem to you speaknoevil?

Guessing without corroboration, off the hip, I'm in agreement with the potential for this sighting being a Satellite.

The ISS is only one satellite out of thousands.

Solar arrays on satellites, depending on conditions and local weather in the viewing area can be extremely bright, or simply look like a moving star, or high flying plane across the sky.

Since they're in space, they make no sound.

For whatever reason, they always seem to appear closer than they actually are, just like many shooting stars will appear to fall just a few miles away when in fact while burning up through the atmosphere, they never make it to the ground, or, if they do, impact hundreds of miles away.

I'm in Rhode Island, but wasn't out last night.
I would love to see a UFO.
Funny story about last week in Providence though. We were on our way for my chemo treatment and saw something big and strange in broad daylight. I kept saying, "What the hell is that thing????" Well as we got closer, we discovered it was some huge balloon thing with an advertisement and light. LOL
Bummer!

I was driving south on the NY State Thruway last night. Between 8:45 and 9:00 PM I noticed a very thick contrail heading from North West to South East or vice versa. It was very close to the moon, hence why I was able to see it. The moon lit it up and it even produced a thick black shadow on the clouds surrounding the moon. I didn't see whatever made the trail, but it was a really striking visual.

lol Night Star, nice to know someone else in this state has those moments. Yet, when I drive around, I think many of us do

The funniest thing to me about all this is that I was at a wedding dress rehearsal dinner, seated with strangers, went outside with them for a smoke, and we were talking about UFO's when my daughter called! Hmmmm....

I am happy to hear a couple other members seem to have seen something around same time. Hopefully this will stay up long enough for other members of this area to see.

Odd when I checked where the ISS was it wasnt near here, yet, one of the links from above showed the direction it went in my time zone area and it did come from West North West and quite close to the same time.

If we were to get into semantics, I can tell from where they were sitting the direction they were looking would have been more North North West,

The way she keeps trying to describe it as much lower. Like you know that was closer than space or the outer atmosphere.

Anyhow, hope some others chime in on the skies last night
