The Return of Dr. Strangelove: How fiscal austerity will push the United States towards nuclear arms

With trillion dollar deficits and large bills in the coming years for social programs, America may simply have no choice but to cut the size of its military. What could be a simple yet cost effective way to achieve a powerful deterrent and global military power in the coming decades with lean budgets: Relying once again on nuclear weapons and a strong emphasis on cyberwar.

With America having left Iraq and soon Afghanistan, America has a fundamental choice to reshape its military. If the nation can move past nation building and focus on defense of the homeland, nuclear and cyber-weapons maybe the most cost-effective solution.

The authors claim: " After all, dollar for dollar, nuclear weapons—in particular—provide American taxpayers the greatest level of security and stability of any weapon the nation has ever fielded. The fact that at an estimated $30 billion per year—5% of the defense budget—the nuclear arsenal is cheap, may spur Congress to take a pragmatic position toward the nation’s most powerful military capabilities (as the federal budget is increasingly engulfed by social welfare programs) and support an effective nuclear deterrent along with the development of devastating cyber capabilities."

As multiple whistle blowers including Doug Dietrich have said... the Nukes don't work... and haven't for decades... The American public had been fooled to think that the Nuclear shield works, it doesn't... The electronics for the missile systems don't work after being bombarded for years by fissile materials... That is why the Chinese only have several hundred... their less corrupt system just repairs the ones they have each year.... also, new technologies set off the nukes inside their bunkers by the enemy before their launched, as discussed on Col. Bearden's website.. about time to change direction...

While I am a big proponent of "peace through strength", In order to get fiscally sound I think you would need to see the Army go from 10 to maybe 6 active divisions, the Navy from 10 carriers to 6, and the airforce lose up to 25% to 40% of manned aircraft in favor of drones.

The carriers put in mothballs if needed, the army depend on national guard combat forces for "major wars", and drones and air national guard taking the place of the active airforce.

It would save a ton of money and still leave us with a strong military, especially if Guard forces are utilized as they have been.

Note: I beleive the Marines have a law stating they would always have 3 divisions. However; the size of those could be trimmed, maybe cutting 1 of the 4 infantry regiments in each. (the 3rd Marine Division is already smaller then the 1st and 2nd and would be augmented with Reserve Marines or draftees in time of war).

All that being said our current armed forces are pretty small as far as deployable units, for a country of our size and treaty commitments. It's more then half the size of what we had at the end of the cold war.

BTW.....Dr Strangelove (or how I learned to stop worrying and love THE BOMB) is an EXCELLENT movie....the dark humour within it at times is almost inperceptable unless you know what to look for. Great flick!!!!
