I'd like to start a topic on the novel idea of well known actual groups that have come to light. Specifically those that were funded as stay behind groups in case of Communist invasion and or radical change in power domestically. We know of some of thse such as I listed; Operation Gladio, Projekt-26, BUNDjugend, etc However most all I have read on are in the European theatre, the ground zero areas of cold war. What groups have you you read about that have some basis of fact, beyond just myth for North America? I find it hard to believe there would not also have been groups started here. Likewise what about Asia? Japan? Australia? Given the amount of funds shifted to rather nefarious groups in Europe like the BDJ our cold war intelligence seems desperate to find ANYONE they could use in case of a successful marxist take over.....I find it hard to beleive there would not be such groups prepared in America, Japan, Australia and pretty much every country....the newer socialist governments in Europe seem to have purged many already, but the fact that none seem to have come to light in these other countries, makes on wonder if they are not still ongoing. Would love links and or reading suggestions on that. The examples I gave were more secret armies and para-military but I'm interested in true underground idealogical societies too....like John Birch goes underground.....any come to mind?

While serving in the U.S. Army in the 1960s, Christopher H. Pyle learned that “Army intelligence had 1500 plain clothes agents watching every demonstration of 20 people or more throughout the United States.” Pyle’s disclosures led to Congressional investigations and a crackdown on what was regarded as the Army’s investigative excesses. This ended what advocates regarded as the peak of counterintelligence efficiency: “At the height of the disturbance period, a CIC agent could get a report from the street to Fort Holabird HQ in 20 minutes, from practically any city in the U.S., seconds or brief minutes later the report was in Operations Center in a lower basement of the Pentagon.”

Not reall a stay behind group. More of a secret army rolled into the US Army.

I don't know if this relates or not but I've really been following the recent ammunition purchases by the gov't. All in all it's about 750 million rounds so far this year and it's claimed to be for H0mel@nd Sekur1ty training purposes.

One article referenced the recent expansion of JS0C in the military and a doubling of the budget, expanding roles ,etc. especially to assist in 'civil disturbance' issues.

I'm sure everyone on ATS has seen either the photos or in-person DHS armored vehicles and purchase requests. I actually read the 2013 Army budget request that included things like Paladin howitzer platforms and Stryker vehicles for "assisting in civil disturbances under the NDAA".

If you want real paranoia check out recent developments with TrapWire and Stratfor. The ability to monitor and facial recognition on ANY IP camera in the world connected to the internet, private or public, is terrifying.

Hell.. yesterday Google plus asked me if I wanted it to scan images and see if my face appeared in any of my friends' photos!

If there is such a thing as an NWO, I've got news for you. It's already here. I think we need a New and Improved! World Order.

Here is something I found the other day while looking for some CCTV cameras. I kind of knew this technology existed, but when you put this with the huge server farms in the midwest, the recent worry of Vets as T3rr0r1sts, and you have a very big brother. As long as you are behaving, you should be fine..........right?

Right! Probable cause was stupid anyway. We should frisk everybody to make sure nobody is committing a crime. (except the criminals who are doing it while the police are busy frisking).

What if you're not behaving? LOL Certainly some of our posts here for example and elsewhere...like for example if you had a habit at times of posting things like GAPO, F6, SCO, ACE - BI, MSA, that has to trigger a look see I think. I mean if one were to do that, not saying I would....

Hi.

My background is in US Special Forces - stay behind operations are usually managed as a strategic asset when one side in a conflict knows its position is untenable and future infiltration will be more risky than leaving agents or assets behind. Ideally, one would not want to use stay behind operations unless likely future infiltration would be harder/more expensive than the coordination of the assets in the area.

Its technically not a "stay behind" operation by definition unless the asset is operating freely in a zone that you control then that area is captured or occupied by the opposing force.

It is very risky in that they have to have the ability to communicate (which can compromise the operation via intercept) or prearranged signals (easily misunderstood) for certain pre-planned actions (easily confused if the situation changes on the ground fluidly) which is not all that easy to coordinate or manage. Often the operators in these situations would just report and take passive actions until some signal was received in advance of a counter assault then they would have not so much specific targets but would operate in an area with the intent to harass and interdict enemy movements and supplies. It is also often a last resort for a team completely unable to escape the occupied area - if the risk of capture/escape is worse than loosing contact/control with the team. All our operators would have pre arranged exfill plans with multiple alternates that get more risky as they go down the list. With stay behind as the last option in most cases.

In the case of the US, Australia and Japan etc. It would just be a sleeper cell or inactive espionage network. Infiltrated and integrated into society their children might not even be aware of their allegiance then again they might be groomed to gain key positions in the government or media for future operations. This is otherwise known as deep cover or a true covert operation as the "agent" is not so much an employee or Soldier since they will have no way of being compensated other than their arranged cover. One has to completely assume a false life - the stress too much for most and they become doubles very easily.

Most tactics and techniques for stay behind operations are the same as basic field craft or espionage work.

there is a place for conventional forces in "stay behind operations if the predicted loss of control of an area is expected to be brief.

I know I rambled on there the bottom line is these operations are very rare and risky. Any information on the OSS in WWII would give you insight into these type missions. Operation Werewolf conducted by the Nazis after the Allies won the War in Europe is a great example of a true “stay-behind” operation. I know this is wiki source but will get you started… en.wikipedia.org...

I would only opine that the most recent example of an effective operation of a similar nature would be the attacks on 9/11. The individuals were infiltrated (or recruited after they came here under some other guise), trained and managed over a long period of time to accomplish a specific task. Again, though not a stay behind” but a rather a covert operation with an infiltration with no exfiltration option other than death. Not something in which a non-fanatic type person would participate.

Cheers -

Thanks, excellent response. I will say that the above groups like Projekt-26 specifically seem really organized beyond this discription. Their own bases, weapon caches, bunkers etc....granted given their location and in general how thurough the Swiss are on defense in general says alot. But these groups were in fact in countries very much in their control, and created literally a second army out of uniform. That such groups might operate as espionage groups in countries makes some sense...but also would mean that their cover is more easily blown, especially if that nations intelligence community was first comprimised..... Obviously if such groups existed it wouldn't be something likely written about unless one came forward....but it would be interesting to read about examples that have come to light, and how they were organized.

I'm not opposed to the idea, I still kinda hope such groups exist given how things have gone... likely though if the organizations that would have planned them are comprimised I can't imagine they could survive that. It would take an extreme amount of "faith" to organize such a group, and then let them go completely dark. Nice plot line idea though.....esp if they were left more then just conventional weapons.....and were comitted to the former ideals. A doomsday Patrick Henry scenerio, of "if we can't have our ideals....we'll simply end the game and force everyone to start over." Would make a good story.

Sort of a land based off the books submarine...."Any time, any where, always ready, always Here." the ultimate last ditch deterrent.

I dont think gladio was a group, but the codename for an CIA operation in Italy that spanned several decades. I do recall though, that at least in the case of Gladio it was a group fighting communism with terrorism.

Thank You! I did not forget. May God's Providence guide those serving and restoring our nation to it's founding principles. May he protect it's people, and restore our Republic. May the criminals be justly punished, and may the harassed be vindicated. Thank you to all who remembered their oaths and held fast. SMIB
