the problem with the senate is that senators are elected, instead of appointed by state legislatures, like it was intended to be. they were to represent the state.
they don't do much representing anymore.
17th amendment.

Yes - this man has it.

1913 was the first year that Senators had direct elections - previously they were selected by their state legislatures as outlined in the US Constitution.

Another curious thing happened in 1913 - the establishment of the Private Federal Reserve Bank - they had to ram that bill thru somehow & that was the demise of the United States of America, They let foreign bankers print & have control of our financial future & that is why we are at where we are today .

But that is a discussion for another day.

'Voters have elected their senators in the privacy of the voting booth since 1913. The framers of the Constitution, however, did not intend senators to be elected in this way, and included in Article I, section 3, "The Senate of the United States shall be composed of two Senators from each state, chosen by the legislature thereof for six Years; and each Senator shall have one Vote."

They also didn't intend for slaves to ever be considered a full person or for women to vote either. So clearly even they didn't have all the answers or a perfect vision. Which is why we have the ability to change things when we deem it necessary.

Could you, or anyone else, briefly explain the advantage of having senators appointed by state legislature?
