American Benefactories of Oil for Food Program

Amazingly enough three US citizens received money from the Iraqi Oil for Food program sponsored by the UN. All of the recipients campaigned against Iraqi Sanctions. The list of the individuals was intentionally left out of the Duelfer Report due to privacy issues. However a report with the names was given to some Congressional leaders last Thursday. The list is as follows:

• Texas oil baron Oscar Wyatt
  
• Detroit businessman Shakir al-Khafaji
  
• Virginia businessman Samir Vincent
  

In addition to the 3 individuals 5 US corporations were listed as well

• Chevron
  
• Texaco
  
• Exxon
  
• Mobil
  
• Bay Oil USA

IHT: U.S. firms received oil-for-food vouchers
The 918-page report says that four U.S. oil companies -Chevron, Mobil, Texaco and Bay Oil - and three individuals, including Oscar Wyatt Jr. of Houston, were given vouchers and got 111 million barrels of oil between them from 1996 to 2003. The vouchers allowed them to profit by selling the oil or the right to trade it.

I find it interesting that some of those names were left out of the list of Oil voucher recipients, which was leaked at the beginning of the year.
Perhaps the person who leaked the list wanted to leave US companies out of it so they could use it as an excuse to bash France, Germany, Russia and China.

In 2000, Vincent, an Iraqi-born American citizen who has lived in the U.S. since 1958, organized a delegation of Iraqi religious leaders to visit the U.S. and meet with former president Jimmy Carter. Shaker Al-Khafaji, the pro-Saddam chairman of the 17th conference of Iraqi expatriates, received 1 million barrels.
