I always wonder why events like this consume our attention. Random people get shot every day .. if you pulled all the people shot today it would
dwarf the mass shooting. Yet the mass shooting is what gets our attention?
Personally, I think it's a mix of the ghoulish that makes everyone look at a car crash even when they say the won't and a deep sense of need for
reassurance. People need to learn enough to satisfy themselves that something about the latest one is different enough so they can still comfortably
say that one couldn't have happened to them. IMO..
