How do scientists or astronomers know if galaxies aren't really inside of our galaxy? Maybe they are just clouds with stars and dust? Forgive me if this is a stupid question, but its just something I wanted to ask.

being knowledgable isnt all about having the knowledge, but also knowing where and how to attain it.
