Dear fellow A.T.S members, Staff and all…

Having had a gut feeling as many have had for a long time now that something is a miss, not quiet right and something is coming over the horizon I write this thread to ask for opinions & ideas. I’m stuck trying to make the decision…fight or flight.

In this thread I will include a picture that has added to my worries, I will include a couple of possible situations, problems, rough contents of my survival kit & a few other things that I think may be relevant should we be faced with impending danger or the actual aftermath of a major disaster. There wont be any videos included in this thread, only one picture, there will be no graphs either just ideas & worries all put forth in words.

I live on the North West Coast of England, right next to the sea & a small port in our local channel, a nuclear power station is located just up the road but we have the Lake District on our door step to make up for the Power Station. Having worried about the end of times a lot recently I think that our chances of survival in the aftermath of a global disaster are quite small, we seem to be such a small place with a lot of nuclear power stations dotted around our island. Survival here will be harder than in a big country like Canada, the USA, Australia and others where there are more places to run and hide so to speak.

Here is a small map with our various power stations located on it;

If any of these go off any way like the one at Fukushima did then I’m sure we will only be able to prolong our lives for a few years. The only people that will be safe will be the people in the underground bunkers/facilities and the like. I’ll choose to fight or flight though to prolong my life as much as possible.

The scenario could be any of a number of things…a pandemic…dirty bomb…marshal law…UFO’s…****** please fill in that blank as you wish. I would appreciate your opinions, ideas, criticisms, laughs, whatever input will be appreciated.

(Mod‘s I know there are threads similar to this one but this is my own personal take on the situation and am asking for help from fellow Brits and specifically whether to fight or use flight)

The scenario;

I’ve received a call from out of the blue…an uncle who owns his own security firm calls me giving me the heads up that there is approximately 10 hours until a major disaster/pandemic reaching our shores/marshal law ******* (please fill in as you wish) I manage to finally log onto Face ‘information gathering program’ book using my mobile as a modem to try and warn family and friends to which they scoff, some even laugh at the impending danger, saying I’ve finally lost the plot, it would be all over the news by now ect etc. I then write a final goodbye for now thread on this site warning and thanking people for being believers and for helping me on my quest to deny ignorance. I then open the door to my survival room to check the contents of my Bergen and various items I have collected, here is a short summary of these items…

1 Bergen, 1 Small tent, A minus 45c sleeping bag, 5,000 water purification tablets(1 litre per tab), Survival Knife, Compass, Fire Lighter Flint Kit, 20 Snares, Camouflage Sticks, Telescopic Fishing Rod & Tackle, Camouflage Waterproof Suit, Cooking & Eating utensils, Steel toe caped walking boots, Handheld CB Radio with spare batteries, 20 Ration packs, 100 Good Freezer bags, Spare shoelaces, First Aid/Med Pack Containing Strong pain killers, Antibiotics, Wormers, Adrenalin Shot, Sleeping Tabs, Muscle Relaxants, Anti Septic solutions, Bandages, Plasters, Needles, Med Masks, Latex Gloves and other bits & pieces too numerous to include, Canteen, Fishing wires, 2 Pairs of Socks, 2 Pairs of Combat pants, 1 good padded jumper, Soap, salt, Gloves, Strong Working Gloves, Rope, Tin Opener, Disposable Razors, Dog Flea treatment & Worming tabs, Tweezers, Clippers, Vicks Vapour Rub, Puncture repair kit, Magnifying glass, strong sanitizer, Smaller Day Bag (25 litre), Tampons & towels, Duct tape, Superglue, Netting, Webbing, Small tool kit, Various seeds, Collapsible Spade, Fork, Small mirror, Machete, Small axe, Small Crow Bar, L.E.D Torch, Wind up torch with built in radio, Flares, A pumice stone, One crossbow with bolts & 1 inflatable dingy with oars.

I decide it is time to get to the nearest car showroom, gain entry and take a land rover that has 4 wheel drive and will be able to take a beating unlike my own small shed of a car (I‘m not condoning crime in any way but in a shtf scenario it would have to be overlooked) There are not many cars on the road and not a police officer in sight as they are all undergoing briefings by their superiors as are the territorial army ready for zero/lock down hour which is now eight hours and forty minutes away. I take a suitable car then head home to load up my kit, coax my 40kg of muscle dog into the boot & write a short note to pin to my door explaining to friends, sorry but I warned you all along. I then start the car, rev the engine, insert a CD &…

Here is where I am stuck, do I try to avoid possible road blocks and head towards either the Scottish Highlands/The Pennines or do I head toward our channel, acquire a boat to set sail for either the Isle of Mann or Southern Island? Do I head towards an airport to try and get a last minute flight out of here, dumping my faith full, loyal dog and most of the provisions I have with me or if we are struck by a pandemic do I ride it out in my safe and secure home. I am at a loss as to which way to play this should this situation occur, I can sail, I was taught to hunt and survive during my teenage years and have experience from various situations in my early twenties so would not hesitate if it was kill or be killed should such a situation present itself and I am still quite good at evasion techniques.

I know I need to asses the situation properly as if it’s a pandemic I’d probably be better riding it out, protecting myself and quarantining myself but please do you have you any ideas as to which path I should plan to take, am I missing any essentials, have I prepared enough or do you think I would not survive if an impending danger was imminent. My survival room has plenty of bottled water, food, batteries and the like stored in it too so quarantining myself would be possible.

All ideas and contributions will be appreciated, thank you all so much if you can give anything to this worried Brit’s thread.

Wishing all the best of luck in life as it is but wish you all more luck should a disaster occur.

P.S I will be off line for a bit but shall be back on later to reply to anybody who finds this thread of interest or use...

Whoa you got a lot of survival gear! All I have is a couple of small hand fishing kits, couple of sewing kits, 10 water purifying tablets, a couple of plasters..., A couple of wire wood saws, Safety pins, Button compass and a condom..

I also have a tent, sleeping mat and a -16 sleeping bag, although apparently I am at risk at -16!

I don't have much in the way of food except a few nuts and about 11kg of rice haha. Oh and I have a gas camping stove and some matches.. I also have this book called 'Food for Free - A fantastic feast of plants and folklore' which is a brilliant book if you want wild food throughout the year in the UK and parts of Europe.

Damn, looking back at that list I do seem to have a fair bit of survival gear.. more than I thought anyway.

I was in a similar situation a couple years ago. I was in the Memphis TN area herein the States and was living right on the Mississippi River. I have some friends down there who are of like mind. They pointed out that if something did happen I would be trapped as their were only two bridges crossing the Mississippi, both of them in Memphis. Well I saw the danger in that since it would be so easy to shut them down. If you haven't seen the Mississippi let me tell ya, you would be thirty miles downstream before you swam all the way across, and forget about bringing anything.

I decided I needed to be near the mountains so I moved to a rural area near Seattle WA. As if to tell me I was on the right path, last year the 100 year flood came and nearly wiped out the area I was living in. My home was ruined and though relief is available it is in the form of a loan from the Feds - meh!

Anyway, my bugout bag sounds a little like yours and I have even picked up an antique camper van that I am getting fixed up and am presently looking for a place to stash it. I am learning to can food and have some like minded folks around me here. No surprise there really as Idaho is next door.

My advice; get to the mountains. We all heard about the guy from North Bend WA a couple months ago. That is really close to me. Though what he did was despicable - killing his own family - they would have probably not found him if he hadn't had a wood fire going in his stove. Another note on this is that four SWAT team members were hospitalized for dehydration when they first went looking for him because they forgot to bring any water with them into the woods. Perhaps these guys are not as good at what they do as they claim. Of course these were police and not military.

Hope this helps.

Hey there TechUnique, thanks for taking time out to reply.

My motto's in life are 1, Deny ignorance & 2, better to have and not need than need and not have something.

At least you're on the right path to survival, my friends think I am a bit paranoid, strange & mentally ill (I do suffer P.T.S.D but who doesn't in some way), they would soon change their opinion if there is a crisis! I forgot to put a few rubbers aside, they're a multi use addition to any pack, an un-lubricated rubber has many uses...

Honestly though I've wrote this thread not just to ask for opinions on whether to use fight or flight but to drop some hints to people too, I've had it drummed into me from an early age to be prepared and ready and in these times I'm seeing sense in what I have learned over the years.

I think as long as you can see there is a possibility of disaster and have those few thing as you have set aside then you're half way there. Hell you're part of the 5% for being a member of this site, opening your eyes and not taking all the lies. My main worry is that a marshal law will be declared and I am not hanging about to be dictated to by a bunch of nwo nuts, I'd rather take my chances with nature, as you would too I guess.

Thank you.

Many thanks for you reply, sorry to hear about your home
at least you survived unlike the people who were stranded there who died.

The mountains is the best bet I've thought all along that is why I wrote the Highlands in bonny Scotland as an option too. I've just realized on a couple of mile walk with the dog that I've no iodine tablets, I know Kelp is a natural source too but am wanting some pharma grade just in case so best order some asap.

I know that dehydration is a major danger in any situation so have water to transport and purification tablets too until I find a natural spring or source. My main worry at present is a marshal law situation, there is no way I am hanging about to be dictated to by some power hungry nwo solider's, I'd rather hit the road/tracks/paths/channel and survive off their radar. If there were to be a disaster of sorts then I'm sure the dog will understand me letting him go whilst I head towards the mountains in Sweden, I'd like to locate myself near the seed vault, that has to be a safe area or they wouldn't have built it there hey?

I've not many people in my social circle who think as I do, well I've one other friend who is like minded but he is recovering from breaking both his legs (long story) so he is not as mobile as I'd like him to be but would be with me as far as we could make it together, I don't think I could leave him easily but if it was a case of having too I would. Canning is a good option to learn too so I will download some information on canning or use the search engine here soon but at the moment I am still trying to figure a plan of action should things come to a head on this small island.

I appreciate you taking time out replying and for relaying a personal part of your life with the flood, it must of felt good escaping but bad knowing what was happening to the people you knew & your old neighbourhood...it would have been awful, I know I shed tears watching the news never mind being connected to such a disaster.

I guess life is like that though, there is a flip side to everything...

Thanks for the advice, I wish you and all in your life luck in all that you's do.

One of my favourite songs is 'run to the hills' haha. I've got a plan but wanted some more opinions, I can't talk in my social circles about all this sort of stuff they ask if I've had my ptsd meds then look at me with sorrow in their eyes.

Hi theguygeezer, saw your thread, and where you are, I'm to your east, up in t' dales. That uneasy feeling you got? I got one too. IMO the most likely if not inevitable No1 SHTF possibility is economic collapse. The most relevant information I could find re this situation comes from a book I read recently by Fernando 'Ferfal' Aguirres called 'surviving the economic collapse'.
Link to Ferfal's blog here.

ferfal.blogspot.co.uk...

The book is based on first hand experience of what happens when a nation's (Argentina) economy collapses. I found it a very useful book, it is uncomfortable reading, it will shatter many preconceptions you may have about how best to prepare for SHTF. Well, it did for me anyway.
Ferfal was of the opinion that 'stand and fight' was better than 'run to the hills' 'run forrror yourrr life' (soz, that song does resonate a bit). I notice you don't mention food in your prep list. For best advice on food storage, look at mormon websites, it's a requirement of the faith to keep 1 years food stored for your family at all times, and they are old hands at it. Keep in mind that having a years worth of food stored will make you a target if food runs short, best to keep that fact secret from anyone you would not want to share it with/ give it up to at gunpoint.

link to article in Daily Getalaph re financial snipstorm:-

www.telegraph.co.uk...

Worth a quick read, the comments below the article also. I am not an economist, but a friend of mine has spent the last three years doing nothing else but studying the history and nature of money, and has come to the conclusion that collapse is inevitable. History shows this. Traditionally, when a credit bubble has been inflated, the only remedy is a right good war. WW1 and WW2 being cases in point.
Regarding being strange/paranoid/mentally ill, it seems to me from experience to be an inevitable side effect of opening your eyes and mind and attempting to comprehend just how messed up this world really is, so don't let it get you down, I concluded eventually that I am sane, the rest of the world is crazy. That REALLY helped.
As with anything else, it's 'horses for courses', you can prep for a nuclear war, and then bubonic plague breaks out, but I repeat, IMHO financial collapse is looming large, so I prep for that. I can't remember who said it now, but 'better to be ready a year early than a day late' .
all the best, keep on keepin on
)
ps. sounds like good advice from khimbar, might just check in there meself.

Hello there over to the East.

Thank you so much for your advice with links and other pointers too. I will have to re read it in the morning & reply to you properly tomorrow evening as I've been busy on another board then fighting with the dog ect etc.

Briefly I think that what you & your friend are on about has already started in a financial sense, have you not noticed the people in our supermarkets asking for food for hungry families in our own country...when I entered the supermarket & I saw these old dears asking for food for our country (single mums, people who can't find work but have had their money stopped ect) I bit my lip as I almost said to one dear who must have remembered the start of the second world war 'a war's a brewing isn't it love, what are you's short of that (x) amount of money will buy' but never and just gave them a donation on the way out as I thought that was best, instead of talking to them, it would of made my paranoia worse.

That other place where we can talk survival UK will get a check in off us this weekend as there is nothing better to do than chat with like minded people.

Thanks for taking time to read what was a bit of a long Op and for caring, having your eyes open too...oh and confirming we are not crazy phew

Bye for now, all the best & I will write again tomorrow after looking through some of the things you've pointed out.

Peace & love to all but f**k with my family, food, water or my dog & they'll be begging we'd give em a bolt to the eye =:->

Yeah its a read and he seems to be pretty taught but if its true, why not posting on the forum to get some extra advice.

Its things like "If you fill a waterbottle at the stream, point the opening with the stream, this way the water will be cleaner" that are just little tips you might not heard before yet.

OP, maybe you could add some steelwhool to your collections. You can start fires with batteries then or use it to clean ...

'Survival here will be harder than in a big country like Canada, the USA,
Australia and others where there are more places to run and hide so to speak.'

the bay has plenty to forage from if needed. winter brings abundances of yummy
seaweeds, kelps etc and the rock sucking critters are not too bad with an oxo.
consider seagull pie/kebab/whatever if running low on meat.
i'm guessing you're in b-in-f. you'd be surprised at how many astute survivalists
live around these parts!

Hi, Do you sail, if so, what about aquiring a boat, that way you have lots of options about where to go, do not have to pass road blocks, traffic jams, looters and the like and have lots of space for all your preps. If you are in BinF you should find one near at hand.

There is a power plant roughly 30 miles away from where I live, and I think they are planning on building another in the same area too. Being down south there isn't anywhere relatively remote to hideout, so I'd have to trek miles to get to Wales or the Scottish Highlands.

There are woods and hills etc. here, but they're next to small towns and aren't big enough.

I'm wondering if taking a boat and staying at sea would be a good idea.

Yes , taking a boat is a good idea, get one with sails and you wont need much fuel, lots of room for you and your preps. You can decide whether to return to the UK or head elsewhere. There are lots of little islands of the west coast of Scotland for resupply of water, and plenty of fish and shellfish available. Only drawback is you really need to know about boats and sailing.
