Israeli lawmaker Michael Ben Ari ripped up a copy of the New Testament and threw it in the garbage.

Ben Ari, of the National Union Party, had his legislative aide, Itamar Ben Gvir, photograph his destruction and released the photo Tuesday to the Israeli daily Maariv.

“Sending the book to lawmakers is a provocation. There is no doubt that this book and all it represents belongs in the garbage can of history,” Ben Ari said, adding that it “galvanized the murder of millions of Jews” throughout history, including during the Spanish Inquisition.

I already know what some of you ATS'ers will say... ;
"Just imagine if he did this to a Quran .... bla bla bla"
"Muslims would have declared a fatwa and violence, violence, violence..."
Please keep it civilized and on topic.

I'll never understand the intolerance with some people.
The fact is, it's offensive and it's wrong !
Why the hell would he want to provoke Christians like that ?

I am a Christian and I am not offended in any way by this man's actions. It's just a book, there are millions of them. See this for what it is.

By the way, there is a Chinese Proverb which says that anytime you are offended, it is because you have judged.

No need to judge or be offended here, move on...

You beat me to it as I was caught up on another response. Not quite proud of it, but to make a point I myself defaced a bible once.

I don't agree with this man's interpretation of the new testament or this action, but it's nothing for us to get wrapped up about. It's just a book. The message is what's important, and right now his heart is hardened to it. There is a gulf fixed between him and us on this matter.

EDIT:
I would also like to add that I absolutely disagree with him that being sent the christian bible is a provocation. If he can find complaint with the words of Christ or the example of the apostles, I'd like to hear it as many jews admit Jesus was an upright man and great teacher, however strongly they disagree with his alleged messiahship.

Not sure if it was that particular book he had a problem with, if he could he would have ripped the millions of book you're referring to.

I sure don't agree with this proverb, it is nonsense.

Well the man has free will. Its not for me to decide what befalls him. That's between him And God. He is TROLLING Christians and anyone who thinks Jesus is the son of God. Why so serious ?

Just Mr. Confusion, checking in here. Why did you think this was an important story? What message were you trying to convey? I think I understand the story, but what did you want us to think about it?

Anyone that destroys a book is a knucklehead.

Period.

I think I know what we are to think. remember the Nazis burning and destroying books? I think we are to make that jump in logic. Personally all I see is someone who is exercising his free will.

I think the OP was hoping for a different kind of reaction from Christians.

Just a hunch.

If a Christian lawmaker did this to the "Torah" then you can be rest assured it would be national headlines via the Jewish media machine.

Dude we don't care, it's his loss for tearing up a book written about HIS Messiah. Yeshua came to Judah first, when they rejected his message he gave it to gentiles, thats their fault for rejecting his message from YHWH. I'm not offended, if anything i feel nothing but sorrow for the man and those like him who cannot move on. Just as i feel sorrow for the "christians" who were involved in persecuting jewish decendants who had nothing to do with the crucifixtion of Yeshua ha'Meshiach. It's just one giant tragedy and the cycle will never end until people have the courage to just stop the cycle and forgive. I can't undo what was done to jews in ages passed, Elohim knows there isn't a day that goes by where i wish i could. It's not right that they cannot trust people who love their Messiah as if he were their own. One day all will be healed, but it will not happen until he returns. I pray that day comes soon, alot of people have hurts they need to have healed.

He's doing this to "clown" on all the dopey neocon retards that are enslaved by his people, mockery is essentially what it all boils down to. But people will still feel the need to coddle him and his kind because the brainwashing is soooooo strong.

It has nothing to do with brainwashing. We love Yeshua enough to be patient with those like this man in the OP, in hopes that one day YHWH will remove their blinders. This is the end result of a curse their ancestors laid on them, but will become a future fulfillment of a prophecy of their redemption:

Matthew 27:25 And all the people answered and said, “His blood be on us and on our children.”

Their people have been hunted and exiled and driven nearly to extinction, naturally one would be mistrustful of everyone not of their own community. He's holding on to past anger and pain of his ancestors, judging everyone of today for what was done in the passed and he's no different than people judging jews 500 or 1000 years ago for Christ's crucifixtion.
