This sheriff says he strongly believes he has jurisdiction....I say he DOES HAVE jurisdiction.
A county sheriff has jurisdiction in any criminal investigation in his county, and even if
another agency wants to claim jurisdiction, that request goes thru the sheriff's office.
That being said they almost always relinquish jurisdiction to agencies better equipped to
conduct investigations, but that doesn't mean they must. I've heard of instances of sheriffs
n Texas asserting their jurisdiction over state police, Texas Rangers, and the FBI in thier
counties...
Look at all the fuss Sheriff Joe is causing in AZ. We need more elected sheriffs and governors
to assert their authority....the federal government needs a lesson in humility.....
