Hello all. This is my first thread here on ATS and I want to start out by thanking those of you who have answered my questions regarding this subject in the past.

I was raised in a Christian family who were among the biggest hypocrites I have ever witnessed in my life. I was forced to go to church under the threat of not being able to eat breakfast unless I do, and on several occasions I witnessed my uncles smoking weed right before going to church. Which isn't a big deal but these were the same people denying me breakfast for not going. I will save the extent of my disdain for organized religion for another post. Let's get to the point. I would have sleep paralysis almost nightly from the time I could remember all the way up until I got into my teens. Because of my religious upbringing, I was told that these were demon attacks and they would scare the living crap out of me. SP is creepy anyway and just add some fantastical stories about demons and possession attempts and you have a living nightmare. Anyway, I am pretty bitter about being taught the absolute worst thing possible about what SP is instead of learning the truth about it. This is a perfect example of how religion retards true spirituality. So. I have not had SP in quite a while and I would love to learn how to get back to that state. It's almost like my body forgot how to do it. I have been having amazing third eye experiences while in meditation and I started meditating on all my chakras recently. I felt my root chakra for the first time this week.
I want this thread to be a place where we can share what kind of techniques or exercises to use to increase the chances and frequency of sleep paralysis so that we may all eventually get to our goal of astral projection. I know there are numerous other threads on this subject already but I would like this thread to only be about personal experience and not published works or reference. Thanks everyone. I am really looking forward to this

I have no problem with smoking weed. But smoking weed right before walking into church? I was giving an example of the hypocritical nature of my Christian family. Nothing more.

And Jesus drank wine while preaching,

Like gahndi said I like your Christ. I do not like you're Christians.

Or something to that effect.

At the end of the day spiritually speaking you are dreaming, with any astral travel or SP. You are looking for a high and forget that they are always followed by a low. They can give you some experience and you can learn about yourself, but in my opinion they are just part of a dream scape.Better it is to use your energy to know yourself rather than expand you consciousness. The is an old saying, the eagle flies high and has great vision but eventually will have to land, when this occurs, the reality check can be hard to accept.

So have you experienced SP or AP first hand? If you have it sounds like you really didnt learn much.

Iin answer to your question yes both have been experienced and indirectly I learnt a lot about myself because of it. If you look a little deeper you may find the reason of why I answered your post. The eagle at times does not represent the spirit but rather the ego and it goes through a reality check when it hits the ground.if not you can easily find yourself tied in the endless knot. Its what I call a blind choice.

I experience sleep paralysis A LOT! and have even done astral projection a few times. Usually I don't desire to anymore. I spend much more of my effort and energy in meditation than trying to astral project or anything else. I think that's what another poster was trying to tell you. Know yourself! above all else.

If you want my opinion..just put love in your heart and joy in your actions and you can completely bypass the wisdom gained through sleep paralysis/ projection for you are already learning it through right action. When the time is right, you will have them. When you need them, you will have them. But when the body and soul are at peace, you usually don't even experience them much.

However, if you still want to induce the experience then read on the few tricks that usually work for me. (Bear in mind that I usually avoid sleep paralysis/ astral projection because I believe there is more wisdom to be gained through other ways). Like all spiritual growth, it must first be seeded in thought and intent. Go to bed with the intent on having a spiritual experience.

Then lie on your back flat so that the spinal column is straight and comfortable. Clear your mind and just mellow out. Even flexing those facial muscles and putting a little smile on your face while your eyes are closed seems to help with the relaxation (either that or the smile just comes as a result of the relaxation).

Next, just slip into the silence and darkness. Hold only joyful bliss in your entire being..and of course the intent for spiritual wisdom. This is my personal technique. It seems to work just fine for me. You can really just tailor whatever technique that works for you. The honest desire and determination to gain spiritual wisdom is the fire that illuminates our way. This is really all you need. And then all other techniques are just sort of a mini-ritual that carries out the intent to fruition.

A couple of my meditation gurus have told me something really amazing a few years ago..Meditating on chakras, raising kundalini awareness, all of those yogic techniques etc. etc. are somewhat unnecessary. It is a true desire for spiritual wisdom and righteousness in the heart, and blissful joy in the soul that stokes the fire. I say bypass all those techniques and just learn from doing.

There is a Yogic analogy for this I heard somewhere. In Vedic times, they used to cast butter into the fire as part of the magic rituals they used to do. The ceremony was only a reflection of the fire that burns inside of us. The ritual, the techniques are only a reflection of the tools we already have inside.

Hope this helps a little! Fascinating anecdote on growing up with hypocrites and being discouraged from questioning your teachings. I can relate!

All in all, if I can offer my opinion..sleep paralysis can teach you much as can astral projections, but there is also a lot to be learned from just kicking back and doing good when you see that it needs to be done. In other words, don't forget the true reason why we seek spiritual wisdom--to serve righteousness, goodness, and God. The specifics of methods and techniques are almost irrelevant when you are working toward the true goal.

Hope this helps!

Well said Narco, and thanks for the advice. AP is something that I have wanted to experience for a long time and I feel like the reason I never experienced it is because I wasn't spiritually prepared. I have grown significantly in spirit over the last three years or so and the things I have seen and felt only make me more hungry for the knowledge and growth that I believe astral prejection will provide. I need to see for myself what lies within, without the constraints of flesh. I believe that there is a limit to how deep I can go using meditation and I wish to go beyond that limit.
I have been using binaural beats before bed and all that seems to give me is really vivid dreams. I had sleep paralysis on one occasion which was great because I haven't felt it in so long. It was amazing, but I was too caught up in the fuzzy feeling of it to remember what to do next. Anyways, thanks again and I'll keep at it.
