Abrahamic Demonisation of 'the others'

Sodom and Gomorrah were not destroyed by a god but by volcanic activity, mostly earthquakes and sulphar and ash deposits. However, the destroyed cities were capitalised upon by the ancient Hebrews (and still to this day by Jews, Christians and Muslims); the inhabitants were demonised and used as scapegoats in order to instill fear in the believers of the Abrahamic religions. It is a possibility that the inhabitants were perfectly decent people living their lives but that their reputations, in death, have been destroyed for millenia.

I believe the time has come to exonerate the people of Sodom and Gomorrah and to realise the crime commited against them when sorrow at the loss of human life would have been the humane response.

The current memorial of the inhabitants of Sodom and Gomorrah, I believe, says more about the goings-on of the ancient Hebrews and, given the verses in the Koran, also the Muslims: divine warnings are needed for existing problems.

Did you know that "pillar of salt" could easily have been a figure of speech meaning "transfixed in thought" or something similar? Yep. And based on these findings, it's no wonder. Lava or no, you gotta stop for a second when you see an exploding volcano. It's a beautiful sight, and it's about to consume everything you ever loved...

So first people attack the actual places and people in the bible as never having existed.

I believe if a Theist were searching for the truth, it would be in his best interest to use the science available in his time to determine that truth, even if it may effect the literal interpretation of his religious text. There is nothing incompatible with understanding the scientific explanation for the workings of God. The bible never said how God did anything. Knowing the science behind the workings of a miracle do not disprove that they are a miracle.

A theist would see evidence of a God, an atheist would not.

Will the universe end in heat death or the big crunch?

What is the driving factor in genetic mutation and evolution, is it random mutation or is there stronger environmental causes?

What causes gravity?

Is the standard model correct?

What is the unified theory?

Is the simulation model the answer?


Its more silly to declare a side, Agnostic is probably the smart answer, Atheist know just as Much as the Theist, and both are just as damn sure they are right.

Saying it mildly

I think gays around the world would be dancing in the streets if they knew Sodom and Gomorrah were not destroyed due to their inhabitants being gay. It must be quite hard being a gay kid growing up knowing most other people were being threatened with a horrible death and a permanently sore afterlife due to being what they are. I can't quite understand how the church/mosque can get away with it.
