Tower Block residents launch legal challenge to Olympic Missile site

28th June 2012 - Howe & Co will file Judicial Review legal proceedings today in the High Court in London challenging MOD plans to station Ground Based Air Defence (GBAD) missile weapon systems on the roof of the Fred Wigg Tower in Leytonstone, East London.

Fred Wigg Tower is a local authority residential block of 117 flats. It is tenanted by families, many of whom have large numbers of children. It was damaged in a significant fire in December 2011, which involved the evacuation of the entire building.

Howe & Co are instructed by the local Residents Association, Harrow Community Support Ltd, to challenge the MOD’s Olympic security plans which include placing a High Velocity Missile (HVM) system on the roof of the block of flats. The missile site is to be manned 24 hours a day with military personnel and the flats are to be patrolled by armed police with further police support stationed outside in the street.

The people in the neighbourhoods where these missiles are being deployed are taking to the streets against them to demonstrate and are instructing lawyers to take the government to court over them.

They object to these weapons because any aircraft downed by them would crash on people 's houses. The are also disgusted by the militarism and terror police lousing their streets and communities.



How do you explain a homicidal ape like the thing in the above photo to your kids? Remember what these things did to Jean de Menezes and Mark Duggan and the London Riots.

I think the communities in west and south London do not buy this garbage. They do not believe that this militerisation is defense, they think that it is about the arms industry showcasing the Starstreak, a new and untested weapon.

Weapons are only worth a premium if they are proven in real conditions. It is an arms industry schtick that weapon is worth its value if it has been used under real action.

The fact is, deploying missiles in highly populated areas are stupid, provocative and it brings along with it obnoxious surveillance, armed police and the monitoring of communities near the weapons.

I can sort of see both sides of the arguement here;

I can understand the reasoning behind the deployment of these missiles considering the resourceful nature of terrorists and the genuine terrorist threat.

However, the residents have a valid point in that if these missiles do indeed shoot down a real terrorist attempt etc then the wreckage would damage their property and possibly even seriously injure or kill residents.

I think it's also fair to say that the deployment of these missiles makes the properties in question a potential target for a direct terrorist attack.

Surely it's reasonable for the residents to question the placement and to seek workable alternatives.

I also have a suspicion that once deployed it will be hard to remove both the missiles and the armed police even after the games.

But it is provocative because the missiles are sited in prominent locations in neighbourhoods and in association with their siting are terror police and soldiers with assault rifles.

The locations of the missiles are not in wealthy areas but were there are many minorities. A muscular propaganda message is being sent.

I don't think Taliban are going to attack the Olympics. Also I don't think the relations of victims of drones in Yemen and Somalia will attack the Olympics because they died in the explosions.

The only danger the people of London face is a false flag attack or someone being murdered by the terror police.

I did not see a map yet where those missile sites are but I think strategical places (should) play a big role in that.
I wouldn´t be happy either if someone would place those in my garden to be honest.

I´ve not a good feeling about the olympics either, when I read those reports about inconsequent security.
But imagine if there was an attack from a hijacked plane heading for the stadium, and all other security measures fail (jet fighters), it´s their last resort to shoot it down.

This may sound crazy, but imagine if there would be extraterrestrials showing up because of the undeniable attention they would get and they would mark this as an attack. Could be a false flag alien intervention, too of course.

Why would it 'make sense'?

I am pretty much certain that if a UFO landed in the centre of London and little green men got out of it then it would make headlines around the world and be considered THE biggest thing ever regardless of what day it occurred or what else was happening at that particular time.

Yeah, suppose you're right.

All it does is detract and deflect from the real issue which is the deployment of missiles and armed police on and around private property in London apparently against the wishes of the residents.

Before long that will simply slip into the background and actually happen - once deployed will they be removed?

The will probably withdraw the missiles but the will bring them out often. What people object is the militarisation of our streets and the crap that comes along with it; soldiers in uniforms all over the place, checkpoints, no go areas...
