These are 3oz cups filled with soil. One conductor is made from 115vac solid copper cut into 3" lengths. The other conductor is zinc coated "hurricane clips" cut into strips.

One lead is negative the other is positive and has a diode/resistor connected to it.

This is how they powered the early telegraph wires.



ETA; it's really not a storage device for energy like it being named a battery would seem to entail...it's more of a way to access then deliver energy to a storage device; like a battery.

Actually, b/c the diode/resistor allows the voltage to go in only one direction,
One can charge a cell phone in about a half an hour or so...LED In the link is the circuit symbol that can be found on circuit boards of ruined/trashed electronics...

I'm shooting toward a goal of 32v.

I'm not quite sure how to increase the amps from between 0.01---0.03
The zinc strips erode and need replacing every 90 days for best results. I use sea water and vinegar, but not at the same time...

I hope I'll never need to make my own radio, but now with your links I'll have half a chance, thanks.
