It is because these hidden secrets are not so great as the secrets just get deeper, darker and more dehumanising.

The secrets consist of various handshakes and passwords. Public knowledge of secret fraternity handshakes will hardly stop any wars, or assist economies to grow stronger. Hell, even most Masons don't remember them all.

This thread is not against the fraternity and community of Freemason, a lot of their public knowledge stuff is good and decent. This is more about some of the sub cultures that are present throughout the world with this organisation. The Freemasons are builders of cities so there is a lot of power in the organisation. The problems come in when working with forces that are not to the betterment of the individual and the greater community.

What has begun? A Grand Master making a poor decision? How is it unstoppable? This will most likely be reversed after his time is done.

Slay our Brothers? Why would we do such a heinous thing? What keystone is missing?

Several thousand years? What evidence do you have that we have existed that long? What crimes have we done that our temples deserve to "crumble"?

Atheism is the keystone? HA!

Our faith doesn't rot us, hatred does.

What have you purposed (sic)? You've only made silly comments.

Esotericism is at the heart of Freemasonry. In my opinion, this is a very ignorant decision made. He is denying research and growth, so much for further light. Our research into the esoteric and symbolic studies of Freemasonry is nothing like proselytizing zealots.

A Freemason is charged to study the hidden mysteries of nature and science.

Has the Grand Master forgotten this?

He apparently doesn't understand the meaning of words. He is confusing "satanism" and "sorcery" with "occultism" and "alchemy". He is also apparently not aware that the existence of God pertains to the supernatural. Since "supernaturalism" is apparently banned in those lodges, God ipso facto is banned too.

I am curious to where and who draws the line between what is acceptable and what isn't when it comes to matters of the supernatural and faith.

You know... The more I sit and think about this the more it boils my blood. How can a GM purse an edict such as this?!?!? How can you detatch the esoteric from the Craft? I wonder how the Brethren in that area feel about this nonsene. Its gestapoesque to try and limit a Masons ability to explore Freemasonry as deeply as he wishes. How can you use the tools presented to us when you arent allowed to incorporate spirituality? Its maddening.

Im also curious if there is a Valley in the area. This edict would make the SR irregular automatically. No discussion about the supernatural, the alchemical, the occult...... twas a sad day for the Fraternity when this was written.

This makes me feel better :

Brethren,  I am from the neighbouring jurisdiction of Queensland, and I can assure you that when this edict came out we were absolutely flabbergasted.

We raised our hackles, vented our disgust, and promptly ignored the edict.  In fact, at the very next meeting of our Research Lodge we chose the open discussion topic to be Esoteric Freemasonry  as a mark of our contempt.

I have never seen a GM's edict so discussed, abhorred, or ignored.  It became the laughing stock of Australian Freemasonry and is still used as a jibe against our friends and brothers from NSW just across the border.

I recently presented a paper on Masonic Astronomy to the Research Lodge (www.barronbarnett.org.au) after which I was jokingly informed by a brother attending from NSW that I would have my tongue torn out by the roots for bringing up such topics in NSW - but he enjoyed it none the less.

It is treated as a joke around Australia, especially within the Ancient & Accepted Rite (we don't use the Scottish here  -  it would get too confusing with all the Scottish Lodges we have here in Australia).

Our brothers in NSW are embarrassed by it and try to forget it ever came out, and the rest of the country ignores it, unless there is an opportunity to take the mickey out of a brother from that jurisdiction.

Not the GM's best decision, and I am sure he wishes he had not listened to the advice to publish such an edict.

Sounds like it was ignored completely, which is awesome. Logic wins!

That is a very bad decision... Where is tolerance, where is freedom of speech and of mind?
That GM is not living the masonic values at all, how can he be GM?
