The Canadian Defence Force said HMCS Chicoutimi had suffered a mechanical failure and its crew were all safe.

BBC News

ATSNN Article

This class of submarines were bought from the UK not that long ago.

If it was handed over on Saturday and was sailing from the UK to Canada, is this it's maiden voyage as a Canadian submarine?

Let's hope they are OK.

buyer beware? a used sub probably doesn't qualify for lemon laws.

I wonder if the canadians took their own mechanic along to check under the hood.

More important, why does canada need a sub?

Fires aboard subs are very serious conditions. We saw some of the drills that my son did in Navy boot camp, and they're very good at getting to the problem and getting the fire out very quickly.

It sounds like the situation is well under control, but as a former Navy mom, such things give me the cold chills.
