Deep Space explores our inner resistance to freedom
and suggests we all might need to nurture global
awareness and planning on some level.

I agree. If people had more leisure time we could be so much more as a species. We'd have time to spend with our kids, significant other, things that make us actually fulfilled. Just imagine how many more inventions or philosophies people could have created.

Too bad our consumer demand exceeds 40 hrs a week.

If everyone has time off and isn't earning money, how can that possibly help an economy?

Look how terrible our school system ranks compared to countries with year-round schools.

Laziness is making people dumb, and is the greatest evil of all. TPTB or whatever you want to call them can only poison your mind so many ways. Laziness is inevitably a choice up to the individual.

The very word "economy" means to "economize".

It doesn't mean unrestrained, wasteful growth that's toxic to Humanity & the Planet.

See how brainwashed we are?

Agreed. I would also like to point out in the last ten years (at least for me) if I ONLY worked 40 hours a week I would have been fired within weeks. What was 9-5 (remember the movie?) went to 8-5 then moved to 8-6 and now includes weekends. The norm really is more like 60-70 hours a week, same pay, same job.

If we wear to all of sudden have more free time then most of us would probably spend it in front of a TV wasting time because we would not know what to do. The last thing brain washed American zombies are thinking about is spiritual and mental enlightenment. We have been trained by cartoons to dislike education. We are brain washed into thinking that its boring. We are tough to only focus on the positive witch makes us lose grasp because we never address the negative.

Most of us on ATS can see whats going on but most of us on ATS do nothing about it. Most of us on ATS would rather hang out with friends, drink, you know the main stream definitions of fun. Its understandable, you naturally want to enjoy your life. Fell it with happy memories. But the way I see it fighting for something you believe in to help billions + the future of humanity is more fun then main stream definitions of distracting time wasting fun. Life is memory's make your memory's fulfilling. Know that when your on your death bed you did more then just post a couple of threads.

We have enough time, its just a excuse. Discipline is key, start with something simple and grow to become as solid as a stone.

Right, but non-laziness and "work" are not correlated. There are plenty of unbearably lazy people with jobs; I work with several of them.

It'll take years, decades even, for people to learn to use their free time.

The most common thing retirees do is watch TV.

They may travel or do something interesting for a year or two but they always settle into the couch and just wait to die.

Most of my friends, coworkers and acquaintances have absolutely no idea what to do with themselves if they arent working. Just last week one had a day off and her kids were with the grandparents and she lamented at having "nothing to do."

For me work just gets in the way. Always has and always will. There is so much I would rather be doing and its different all the time. I'm never in need of a thing to do. Never bored. Work gets in the way of life. I've learned that my outlook is rare. People may talk a good game about what theyd do but when push comes to shove their dreams shrivel and they slowly radiate themselves in front of the TV.

We have been trained by cartoons to dislike education.

I think our children's aversion to today's so-called form of "education" is a natural healthy reaction, because it's not really education.

It's indoctrination, and they sense that intuitively & on a soul level.

All of Albert Einsteins great formulas were thought up while he was daydreaming working a boring book keeping job.

Sure makes you wonder. Religions teaches you to work 6 days then rest on the seventh, I guess they want you too busy to question the world around you.

there would be no tv that could brainwash anyone since everyone would be too busy doing nothing.

the only ones doing the brainwashing are the neglected kids anyways..

as has already been touched on...

people self-organize into different roles based on societal necessity. these roles are fleshed out as part the natural order of things; some become firemen, some social workers, some medical professionals, some garbage men, some drug dealers, some mystics etc.

wherever there is a role to be filled, someone with the corresponding attributes and drive will step in to fill the role as long as it has a utility in the social structure. this inevitably means that some people will be fillers, repeaters, cogs in the machine.

conversely some will be destined for more eccentric roles.

whether this is fair or equal is moot, for this is how the chips fall in a world of billions.

Yes we need the butcher, the baker, the candlestick-maker,
(we are interdependent)

BUT

we DO NOT need a handful of GENOCIDAL, PSYCHOTIC PRICKS
running the machine with false power derived from their FAKE MONEY & brainwashing.

Time to move on...

Why are you all acting like work is a bad thing.

I work 45 hours a week and I don't find it to be a waste of time. In fact it makes me appreciate my leisure time even more. If there is a 3 day or 4 day weekend due to holidays, I actually find myself getting bored and lazy.

Working keeps my mind in shape and keeps me productive both in and out of the workplace.

Make your job enjoyable.

It's great you don't think working 45 hrs/week doing what you do isn't a waste of time.
No problem.

BUT

We are STILL cogs in a Matrix of War & Debt ...

So being content (or anesthetized) doesn't stop the wars or the poverty or the destructive use of energy...

There's a Bigger Picture

Be Well

Good for you.

I have never been bored or lazy in 43 years.

And free time I get is spent researching, writing, singing, creating and being. In my bubble, only boring people get "bored."

You crack me up... How about you remain seated 5 nights a week (including weekends) on 9 hour shifts monitoring prisons around the country using a 60hz monitor. I should mention elbow to elbow with your neighbor.

Better yet, several years of cleaning bathrooms might make you bored of your own toilet bowl... Or maybe not!

Blatant naivety I'll call you out on. Natural ability is present in all walks of life. For some, ideas are snatched up and patented by individuals barely lifting a finger to amass wealth. You're quite unaware of the game being played. Eccentric defines the oligarchs with their fraudulent economies - combination theft and trading, the waging of countless wars, and the profiting off the sick and the old while proliferating slave mentality via wideband hypnosis.

There's your "drive to corresponding attributes/ self-organization" on a silver platter. Add large fries because GM potatoes are indicative of nature.
