My sister has eight children (four of which are adopted) and is a stay at home mom. I have more respect for her than any other person in the world because she has raised and is raising wonderful children who will eventually contribute to society.

In my opinion whatever decision parents make (or agree at least agree on) when it comes to who stays at home or who works is their business. If to consenting adult parents decide that the best option for THEIR family is for mom to stay home than awesome. If they decide dad needs to stay home great. If they both have to work or chose to work good for them.

As long has the children are properly cared for than it is no bodies business as to who works or does not and each decision needs to be valued.

I don't know if this had already been pointed out in here yet or not but maybe the were referring to the most common kind of sty at home wife/gf we have these days, the kind who does maybe a total of 10 hours worth of work a week, if that, and just does whatever she pleases with all that free time....

What do you mean the "most common"? I believe that type of person is far from common unless your talking about the those terrible "Real Housewives" shows. Those type of "stay at home moms" are few and far between. Granted television will not allow you to believe that. I know many stay at home moms and their days are full of cleaning, cooking, driving kids, grocery shopping, fixing things, etc. and even if these said women only do 10 hours of work a week, if that is what works with their family and each person in the relationship is happy than who cares.

If stay at home mums can afford to stay there because their husbands are on good salaries then best their wives stay at home rather than take the jobs from a single woman/single mothers who don't have a husband to keep them or the ex husband is not paying enough child support.

Well OP... based on your description... sounds like you're working your ass off to me. And with all due respect to the feminist woman in the interview... she can go f*** herself, and probably needs to, given her disdain for the choices other folks make in their lives.

It's a fact that most men couldn't afford to pay an equity wage for the amount of work the OP is talking about...

...and if it was up to men to bear children, and raise em up without killing em, we would have no more problems on earth. There would be no people populating the planet... so VIOLA! NO MORE PROBLEMS!

In more ways than most men care to admit, women are stronger than men... especially when it comes to kids...

"Feminism" as it was originally articulated in the mainstream, was mostly based on "the revolutionary idea that women are people too!"

What the OP is talking about in that radio interview is beyond feminism. It is "misandry" (the hatred or dislike of men or boys).

Generally women that have that much disregard for the choices of others, no matter WHAT they are, would make excellent killers in a despotic regime... since they're all puffed up on the power of their imagined ideals.

Haters... they're a drag no matter who they are, what gender they are, etc...

There was a time when family was family they compromised & took care of each other for most people it was never about keeping their wife down, it was about loving her that much you wanted to provide for her.
I wish I could stay at home while my wife worked but I love her too much for that so I will bust my arse as much as possible so she has to as little as possible, but with kids and a mortgage unfortunately we can't afford for her not to contribute financially I'm just thankful she only has to do 2 days a week and my kids still get a decent home life.
In their hurry to throw off all these chains that they were APPARENTLY tied to the kitchen sink with so they could go take a piss standing up feminists single handedly dealt the biggest blow to family life IMO.
Try telling her you will stay at home with the kids while she works, most will quickly jump up with a "I'm not supporting you, I'm a woman I had the kid I will decide who stays home" attitude.
The value placed on a woman or mans work is a personal thing if your partner does not value your contribution maybe it's time to find one that does, or start contributing more than sexual organs as the case may be.
Not to put women in their PLACE just feminists but if I had to choose.
Having to do house work > Working km's under ground breaking rocks with no OH&S.
Raising kids > Storming the beaches of Normandy.
No right to vote > Being open to conscription.

Just sayen it wasn't all one sided men payed their price & at times in spades. Feminists in a lot of cases are more sexist than men ever were.

It was necessary in the 20s, and I would argue is necessary in certain parts of the world today. In the western world though, the modern feminist movement is a joke. It's nothing more than a bunch of obvious lesbians, looking for a reason to hate men.

I wonder how may that are against home mums/dads have actually even spent one day with a child totally dependent on you. I tell anyone give it ago, as they say stand in someone else's shoes before judgment .
We are a 2 parent family with young children. I now since children came along stay at home. It is the most demanding mentally, emotionally & physically job I've ever had . I WORK from 6-10 day in day out, no weekends or holidays. Then I'm on call if needed throughout the night.
One wage means : you live within your means, you go without wants in life, home cooked meals ( I would love a night out once every 6mths at least). It also means that I get to influence I'm children as they grow, help them, teach them nurture them.

But do you know what it's 2012, this means if circumstances allow then I have a choice as to weather I say at home or work in a paid job. To me this is the most important part. Parents do it tough in any situation. The don't need people judging their choices. I say lay off the parent bashing. Hats off to the single parents, honestly don't know how they do it.

I would like to know where they come up with 10 hrs a week

I have been a stay at home dad for 3 years pretty much. Wife makes 5x what I would in the job market and it keeps me available to also take care of my nieces and nephew if the need arises. This is what works for us at the moment. I don't loaf around and do nothing. I keep my little girl entertained and intrigued in the world around us the best I can. I am sure many people frown down on me as a deadbeat or whatever term they decide to use, but it's working out alright for the time being, and as soon as she starts school in a couple of months I will hop back into the workforce wiping butts and taking care of adult babies so to speak. Every family has priorities and no we do not take any form of gov assistance. This works out well for us, to each their own I suppose.

Dude, I love you, thank you for taking a status quo idea and exposing it for what it is. I truly believe you can do whatever it is you want as long as you have compassion for other other people. You are the number 1 stay at home mom in the world as far as I see it.

I'm a feminist, and I don't hate men. I quite like men and women. In fact, the only time I ever hear other females say they hate men was when they were joking around. This thread should be renamed: "Open hate on feminism for no reason whatsoever".

I wish we had more professors like you in colleges across the nation. I will be a professor starting next year, so we'll at least have one more professor that won't teach horse crap.

Feminists are the ones who are ruining the image of women all around the world.

What you do is completely legitimate and in no way effects the status of any other woman in the world, to say that it does is complete lunacy.

These feminists have no idea what they are doing, poisoning the minds of females and males a like.

They should be egalitarians and allow women to make their own choices, along with men about how they think they should be treated, how they should live their lives and how it's nobody else's business but your own what you do with it.

~Tenth

whut???

My mother was a feminist. She raised three children, she took care of her husbad and her mother. She worked over 40 hours a week in a sewing factory until she was 46 years old. My father got a better paying job so she became a stay at home mother/grandmother. She was one of the hardest working, caring, honest, helpful, determined women who ever lived.

She slaved over a hot stove cooking the holiday dinners. When they were finished and we were ready to eat, the children went first, ALWAYS, then the women and men went together, not one before the other, together. Men and women were equal in all ways. She was a feminist, she didn't expect women to settle for what their husbands gave them. She didn't expect men to settle for what their wives gave them.

She had countless people "come out" to her because they knew she wouldn't judge them. She had countless people come to her for advice because they knew she was wise. She was a feminist. She knew that men and women were equal in their rights and their responsibilities and she made sure her children knew it too.

I think you may have a skewed view of the word and don't understand what it fully entails. It isn't ONLY the ones who march and shout and get involved in politics. It is every woman who stands up, works hard, sees equality in all people regardless of gender, race, sexuality, socio-economic status or anything else that exists.

My mother was a feminist, she was beautiful, she was loving and one of the greatest women I have ever known.

It's not the op that degrades women, it's the women that are feminists. They degrade women, they degrade the roll for women in society and try to force women into roles they were never meant to have.

Women should not be police, they should not be military and there are psychological and physical reasons for both. When you start forcing people to feel they can and should play roles they were never intended to play, that's when you are degrading them, not when they take charge of the roles society and physiology has created for them and work their asses off at them.

A reply that reeks of arrogance and ignorance.

All ugly women are feminists. Unbelievable. You equate a woman's WORTH with her physical beauty?

Now that's ugly....

I didn't say "all" I said "usually". And it's part of our biology - we're hardwired to seek out healthy mates. Don't blame me, blame evolution.

says the guy that lives in his parent's basement??? dude, come on, show some respect!!! You are acting worse than the people you are supposedly "against".

I'm disgusted by this thread.
There are bad people in every group. The one on the radio was a poor representative of feminists. I KNOW what a feminist is, my mother taught me. If she were here today, she'd set the radio personality straight really quickly too.
She was more of a "man" then many of the men around today and more of a woman then they could ever hope to get. My parents both worked hard, but my mother worked harder. Both parents had equal standing and both parents supported the family. When my father was able to earn more, my mother hen stayed home. Before he was able to earn more, she worked and he did most of the "babysitting" because his job allowed for it and hers didn't.
She was a TRUE feminist, not a political shill.

I'll go on to say I know many lesbians as well and they don't hate men, they just have no interest in them sexually. Most of them actually love men, they are friends with many, but their sexual interest is in other women. Some of them are EXTREMELY HOT too!

Very, very very egostistical, bigoted, chauvanistic thread and I am disgusted by it!

That's not true. SOME women SHOULD be police and should be military and are more than qualified for each. SOME men shouldn't be either of those. It's not a matter of gender, it's a matter of individuality and each person having the right to make their own decision.
The woman who chooses the military is no lesser and no greater than the woman who chooses to be a stay at home mom. The stay at home mom is no lesser and no greater than the woman who is the CEO of a fortune 500 company.
The truth of feminism is that women get to choose their OWN path, just as men get to choose their own path. It's not about one being greater than the other but the two being equal in all aspects. THAT is what TRUE feminism is about but it has been distorted by twisted people both for it and against it and made into something it isn't.

There's nothing wrong with a woman or a man being the stay at home person as long as there is a true need for it and they are actually doing what needs to be done and not just neglecting those needs which is all too common these days. If there isn't a need for more than 10 hours worth of the work in total for a week, a child, elderly or disabled person needing taken care of, then why can't both work and split the at home workload so that more money is coming into the household leading to an earlier retirement for the otherwise only worker as well as more stuff and vacations and whatnot...

It's quiet obvious you don't have children or a partner for that matter with this attitude! Would like to know were you come up with this 10 hrs total a week. Was it a book or tv? Get a real life please. Btw raising a family is not all about the end, retirement ? Really I live in the now & present and enjoy family life even without vacation life is fulfilled thanks. 10x10 hrs is more reality

In nature, the females are bigger and stronger than the male species. In some cases, the females devour the males after reproduction.

Better watch out bro!
