Great info TUT. I agree with the posts about the Patriot Act 2, looks like bad news and a removal of more rights to me.

That story is truly amazing what happened to Tut. I don't think I would respond to kindly to that. I am sure Tut did everything uder his/her ability to defend their rights, but as was said, I don't think those rights are available at he present time. After all, we are in a state of "War".

I'm not sure what type of "State" we are in. It is beginning to seem more "Fascist" every time I read the news.

Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is to tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger.

Nazi Air Force (Luftwaffe) commander
at the Nuremberg War-Crimes Trials, 1946

Or every time I look into history. I once had the notion that as long as we taught history we would be conditioned to repeat it over and over

Seattle has a Gestapo like police force and has had for sometime. Remember the WTO there a couple of years ago. On the other hand there are allot and I mean allot
of very active anarchist types. From Eugene,Or.
north to Seattle and beyond along the coast. As well as more Arab and Muslim truck drivers going up and down I-5 than there are in the Middle East.

No options were given me. 5 or 6 cops descended on me like lightning, throwing me up against the wall, hand cuffed lifted up by the arm pits, and swiftly removed to an elevator. Then still handcuffed placed in a white fiberglass room like a bathroom stall but smaller. About 4 hours later I was removed and taken to a jail downtown where upon the cuffs were taken off. Next morning transfered south for 6 more days of isolation. They asked questions I answered. I asked questions, it was if I wasn't there.

All in all, impressive, efficient, extremely fascist in action and in reality. It has caused me to ponder that the war in Iraq will eventually be decided here. 30 or 40 years ago I would have already retaliated against such abuse. And the protestation would not have gone UN noticed.

Winston Churchill said something like 'if you are not a liberal when young you have no heart, if you are not a conservative when you are old you are stupid' and I am not certain he was strictly applying that to politics or actions in life. I am much more conservative in my actions, not my thoughts.

Its no shock to me that the screeners arrested her for the bookmark. To them it was a foreign object. I mean I've had to deal with these people on a number of occasions. I'm certain many of them have never seen a book. So the fact that they fear a bookmark is no great shock. lol

This country is already facist. If you need proof of that, just look at the vast majority of people who hate Arabs and French just because some right-wing pundits told them to. Not because they A: Know a single Arab or French person, but because they were told to hate them.

When I was told to take American flag off a 10' x 1" polystyrene pole that weighed less than half a pound at a peace rally because the pole could be used as a weapon against armed and armored police, I knew this country had gone over the cliff.

You should have told them that you have a constitutionally protected right to assemble and to bear arms and if they didn't like it they should move to some other country.

Another thing that creeps me the hell out is the police and other law enforcement agencies not hiring 'smarter' individuals, the offical reasoning is because they fear greater turn over rates as intellectuals tend to get bored in police work. I however think it is because an 'intellectual' is more apt to know what kind of right violating crap they are going to be asked to do in the line of duty. They literally want dumbed down law enforcement officers and I think to some extent the smae holds true for the lower enlisted rnaks fo the military as well.

Only problem is at these rallies when the cops tell you to do something there are about 12 of them and if you don't do it they arrest you. I had to go to work that day. Next time I go to one of these they won't make me take my flag off an obviously safe pole. I'll have the day off for a little arrest action if it comes to that.

They seize hundreds of items everyday at airports without arresting people. I just can't understand why she was they decided to arrest.

I wonder what the number of reporters and security testers are that have been able to get things past these screeners. Its must be very high.

I posted earlier in this thread about an incident in Sea-Tac Airport and described my impressions of the Seattle Police Force. Today I stumbled upon this article. So I dug this thread out of the labyrinth to add it here as opposed to starting anew. I hope it shall give you an insight into the mind set of our 'first responders' and how they respond!
=================================================

The 32-year-old's life ended abruptly early Sunday. Seattle police said that Rick Camat fired a gun in a crowded parking lot near Qwest Field and did not respond to officers' orders to drop the weapon.

But his brother, who was club-hopping with him and witnessed the shooting, said Rick Camat tried to break up a fight by firing a gun into the air, and officers did not warn him before shooting.

Family members in California and Washington grappled yesterday with the death of the man they said did not have a criminal history.

"It's just something I did not believe in my heart," Camat's cousin Rechelle Asperin said of the police version of the shooting. "He's not violent; he does not have a violent nature. He never broke temper in front of me and my family. I've been out with him a couple of times going to the clubs here in L.A., and he's always been happy while we were out and never started any altercations with anyone. All he did was just hang out, and he was just happy."etc,etc,etc....see link below for full story
