13 Quakes on Alaska Peninsula Today

Just checking the USGS earthquake lists and saw the there is a series of earthquakes taking place on the Alaska Peninsula today. Others also other parts of Alaska.

I have never seen a swarm like this in the area. All are over 2.5 on this page, which means there are probably a lot more under 2.5.

I should have said there have been 13 in a row with more in different places in Alaska. This is not normal. Any comments out there?

It's hit and miss with earthquakes to the eastern states,

I waiting for the Madrid to rumble , but not going to hold my breath

I just noticed the quakes in Alaska myself...I'm hoping this isn't a start of things to come. Hopefully they'll shake rattle and roll and then go back to sleep...

That looks like the shape of a caldera or magma chamber. Anybody know where the chamber is for this mountain?

itlay has been having swarms to i think the earths crust is on the move it moves from east to west..

If you check out yesterday's quakes, Alaska had a fair amount of 2.0< quakes. Including a 4.4, 3.3, and 3.6. Honestly, I view earthquakes daily, and this isn't exactly that out of the norm. The 4.4 is a little bit out of the norm, but not unheard of for Alaska.

Now I will say, I have only been viewing earthquakes daily for this year. I'm not sure what the trends were years prior, but this wiki page claims there has been an uptake in earthquakes this year. Wiki

A recent increase in the number of major earthquakes has been noted, which could be explained by a cyclical pattern of periods of intense tectonic activity, interspersed with longer periods of low-intensity. However, accurate recordings of earthquakes only began in the early 1900s, so it is too early to categorically state that this is the case.

ETA: I might want to retract what I said. I counted the number of earthquakes over 2.5 for today, yesterday, and the day before for Alaska (because I really have that much time on my hands).

So far today (8:30am in Alaska) - 15
Yesterday - 4
Monday - 5

Count me oblivious! You may be on to something.

Check out what is happening with the Sun. a phalynx of sunspots. 1504 is having a long duration flare. You wait and see something is in the mix.

Check our space weather.com meteor showers etc.

Ha! I just closed that site and reopened this one. I view that site daily as well. Check out June 6th and 7th for sun spots.

Just thought I would update/correct my previous post about AK having 15 earthquakes over 2.5 on June 13th.

Apparently, many of those were scaled back to a lower magnitude. Currently, USGS shows THREE earthquakes over 2.5 for June 13th, one of which was a 4.5. So, I go back to my original idea, this is not that unusual.
