It stinks that there's so many snobs around here. If you don't nod in agreement throwing around the popular jargon your looked down upon and get a mailbox full of flame. I'm about ready to pack it up myself.

As a moderator on a different forum, I'd have to say that this is pretty typical of any "older" forum.

There are those who have been here since the beginning who barely participate anymore, the people who joined 2-4 years after the forum hit who are now the "running class" who berate new members due to not understanding how it was back in the old days, and the newer members who try to participate when it's right (half of them barely knowing how to use the internet, thus getting the "ignorant" name brand). It really isn't that surprising, being an active "forum surfer."

I tend to just lurk, as can be seen by my post count.

how can some anonymous yokel on here who hurls insults from behind a computer actually affect you in anyway.

just don't read them and move on. read the op, visit the link, make an opinion and if you want post it.

sure there are some here who have concrete for brains and will defend the red, white and blue no matter what, but that goes for every country.

I feel the same way that many others who have posted already have stated. When the monkey's start flinging their feces at you, walk away and ignore. I generally read the OP and all its links, make my post, then skim read the other replies for people who seem to state their opinion (whether I agree or not) with intelligence.

I was almost turned off of ATS when I first started because I found that if you DID not fight with people, people who generally ignore your comments and just read the bickering. Its hard when a thread is full of bickering.

That all being said, its good to see you have finally decided to join. I will be looking forwards to your posts because you already seem to be one of the better ATS'ers. Peace.

Help is offered, oft ignored. Those that wish to reply usually do so in a derogatory manner, so it really begs the question;

Why teach those that will not learn?

As I said in a previous rant, I may as well have a detailed conversation with a brick wall for all those who wish to "wake up" as you put it. They will not listen, regardless of what you have to teach them.

Bridging the gap would the best and only advice I could give you here. You want help? Ask...

It is extremely long though so I'll sum it up. If you're new to the site post in that thread and a more experienced member can take you under their wing for the duration. Your own ATS mentor as it would be.

I also recommend hitting up a member you respect or posts in the same forum as you do and make some connections. ATS offers the u2us to be used! Make some friends, there's still some pretty rad people around here.

Some people take this site seriously while others don't. Those who do aren't typically the one's you have to be concerned about. They're the one's you want to "friend" and check on when you sign in.

When you find like-minded people, pay attention to what they have to say and join in on those discussions. That way you don't have to worry about the rude and childish ones so much.

And remember too, that just because the motto of ATS is "Deny Ignorance", that doesn't mean that everyone follows it. I give advice sometimes to try and let people see different views on a subject that they normally wouldn't see. I'm not trying so much to wake them up as I am just giving them different options on how they view certain topics.

That's my contribution to the whole "Deny Ignorance" angle. If people take my advice , great. If not, I'm not going to worry about it too much and I'm not going to get rude ( Most of the time ) with people who disagree with me. At my worst, I'll give you a piece of mind in such a way that you won't want to come back and talk to me again.

Besides which, if people don't want to see things my way, that's their problem, right?

Welcome aboard BTW. You sound like a very level-headed woman. Ever been to New Bern?
