A video that we all NEED to learn from: Solution to the Financial Crisis

I hate to be blunt but the future of our economy and financial system has been staring us in the face for quite some time; let me tell you that it is not a bright future.
We can wait like usual until the problem gets extremley bad, and subsequently many people will probably starve to death like in the great depression.
Or we can be proactive, and protect our society, our fellow human beings and our own sense of identity and purpose.

Making Money Published - 5 June 2012 Dateline reports from a community that's found its own solution to the financial crisis... by establishing its own alternative currency.

This is a great example of how people can make a resource based economy work.
These people have thrown away the Euro because if they depended on it many of them would probably have starved already.
Now they are trading their own currency for the bar Essentials.

See the coffee shop transaction at 5:05. Not all the transaction is in TEM.
2.30 in Euro
1.50 in TEM

At 9:30. "The Volos city council agreed to accept SOME portion of fees in TEM"

10:12 "With Euro I pay my bills. With TEM I buy my food."

And since "noone is allowed to accumulate more than 1200 TEM", this clearly means that one cannot ever buy or sell anything worth that much. Since at this stage, the TEM is the same value as the Euro, thats a limiting factor in its use.

Its a very good idea though.
Such a good idea that people shouldnt have to lie about the facts in order to say its a good idea.

The currency is completely electronic though... I assume because this is because it is too difficult or expensive to print or mint money that is not easily counterfeited.

They will be in just as much trouble if Greece has rolling power outages (or total ones for that matter), as is predicted for the Greek future.

Paper currency is better, IMO. What if computers go down or the power goes out?

Doesn't have to be 100% what they have done, obviously there are negative aspects you could work on.
But we can learn from this.
They are showing it is possible.
