Has ATS ever seriously affected anyone in their personal life?

I don't think my being on ATS has been detrimental to my life. If I'm being watched, I'm not aware of it. It's brought up a lot of memories of things, stupid things, I use to do when I was younger. In context, it's very creatively inspiring and thought provoking. However, most of these topics are of such a nature to just be meditated upon and discussed. I enjoy the paranormal and spiritual forums because that's my field of study and experience. But I love reading the conspiracy forums and Grey forums.

It's a great site. I'm hooked.

A fair number of relationships have been improved via the ATTACHMENT DISORDER thread I posted . . .

Some suicides have been spared.

Some marriages have been markedly improved.

Some anxiety disorders have been mostly overcome.

IIRC, only the ATTACHMENT DISORDER thread resulted in applause, however. LOL.

Of course, some of the above were mostly handled via private messaging and then emails.

Very good question however I don't think that the spurious members of this forum will give you an honest answer.

Back to the original question and i'll keep it short and sweet... no

Peace

Some great responses, much appreciated.

I was expecting some crazy stories but all seems quite normal, it's good to get feedback though and to learn about events which took place before I started visiting ATS.

Often when I'm bored and trawling through old threads I thnk, you know there's probably a thread or two out there where some insanely paranoid person making all kinds of crazy claims about being followed or watched or they know something they shouldn't then they simply stop answering, disappear and are never heard of again. I'm yet to find such a thread but I bet there are a few out there.

Anything like that ever happen to anyones knowledge? Anyone ever started a really interesting thread then simply disappeared leaving many questions unanswered? It's cool to hear about those well known threads from days gone by, what are the most interesting threads you remember, classic threads which newcomers to the site should go back an read if they get time?

That's what I like about ATS, you never know what's coming next.

As staff, I've seen at least one major incident where classified docs were posted. We were asked to cooperate with the authorities and remove the posts, and did so. I really can't say more than that on the subject. So yes, some very real "stuff" has happened in connection to the site....

And of course, there's the whole "Erad3" affair. If you don't know what that is, I won't help educate....

I worry that I spend too much time on here while I'm at work and I'm going to get in trouble for it eventually, but it hasn't happened yet. My wife also complains about me being on the computer when she wants me doing something else, but I usually have a good explanation, LOL!

I can imagine, just like any social networking site, I could probably disclose too much information on here at some point and get myself into trouble. I have to read and re-read to make sure I haven't done exactly that. Sometimes I would love to share things that are happening at work, but it isn't always appropriate or legal.

Protoplasmic Traveller was a bit of a drama queen, but he swore his house was broken into and things stolen as a result of things he posted on ATS, and he was convinced he was being monitored. Who knows?

I can share those sentiments (both posting at work, and posting too much personal info). I think we both know that the other is a man who enjoys the finer things in life, hehe...

As for being monitored, I am somewhat familiar with how such software works, both from a previous occupation and my present work with software. Basically, these programs look for two things...keywords, and a pattern of behavior. Communications of any kind, randomly sampled, then analyzed for these two factors, are then flagged for review by human eyes. Needless to say, this is a very SMALL percentage, due to both manpower, and the sheer volume of information, within the various agencies tasked for this sort of thing (largely divided between foreign and domestic monitoring, such as the FBIS division of the CIA (Foreign Broadcast Information Service), or the FBI and DHS for domestic, etc.). Different keywords, flagged for different divisions, along with originating IPs, etc.

So, unless you're routinely posting posts with lots of these keywords (and often, the software will be keyed to look for certain languages of origin) you're probably just fine. Even if you were, your background would be investigated first, and would likely rule you out right there (and future flag you as a false threat).

This is getting a lot more interesting.

I remember reading that thread about the guy who claimed he stabbed and beat some being to death, it was horrifying, but an amazing story. It was actually one of the first threads I read on ATS that really got my interest, well written - he painted quite a vivid picture. I read over the account again...it has lost none of its impact reading it for a second time.

As for Erad3, this was new to me but I dug around a bit, that's pretty heavy but interesting. I remember hearing about those shootings but was unaware the shooter was an ATS member. I'll be searching for some Erad3 related threads probably over the weekend.

Thanks
