I just read on twitter that a new independent non-profit organization will recruit 100 individuals from all ranks and skill sets to buy a large piece of land and create a resource based economy community on it a.k.a. Venus Project.

We have now started the project to implement the building of the first Venus Project community. We will unite 100 individuals from all walks of life and skill sets into a non-profit organization called “100 United”. This organization will acquire a large portion of arable land in Spain, and will create a sustainable community with the final goal of full independence of money and imports and the realisation of the model of society that Jacque Fresco & Roxanne Meadows have presented to the world as “The Venus Project”. In showing the world that 100 individuals can actually “get this show on the road” we hope to inspire many others to create similar communities around the world, with or without our guidance. Our ultimate goal must be the end of money all together and creating a worldwide sustainable society that will lift mankind to heights never before seen nor imagined.

Now that´s probably the best news I have heard in about three years....

Listen to this:

We need MacGyver, Rambo and Chuck Norris but deep thought too. We need creativity, endurance and passion. We need builders, electricians, welders, plumbers, carpenters, farmers, engineers and more engineers, medics, architects. And that´s just the beginning. Do you have what it takes? If so we cannot wait to meet you here in person.

I am MacGyver, so where can I sign up?

I noted two flaws, and they are major flaws.... man has this competitive element..... man is subconsciously evil....
like I said Venus Project has major flaws.

What does subconciously evil mean? That you are evil and do not know you are evil?

Sounds almost like: "you are born a sinner and need to repent or go to a hot place".

Hint: your views come from free market propaganda and religion - in that order.

Boy o boy o boy

I cannot wait to see Jacque Fresco react to this... Maybe he can get his blueprints and set up shop?
I´m game - moving to wherever I need to - this I gotta see....

Ever since TVP broke off with Peter Joseph they have been getting more and more mainstream attention. Makes you wonder about the Zeitgeist movement....

Something about the 'Venus project' scares me. People who are convinced that their way is the best way to live and everyone else is wrong can end up being very dangerous.

I agree with you for the most part, I believe it's a great potential alternative to the current state of affairs although to be fair, it's a long list. The cynic in me pipes up and all I can see is a neo, all encompassing equivalent of government housing projects on a grander scale, sold to us as freedom, liberty and equality whilst creating a further class division as guaranteed not EVERYONE would agree to live like that.

I get dissapointed when I hear negative people say it will never work, well how do we know it won't work if we don't try it, mankind has to stop being led by fear and grow up as a species, otherwise we will destroy each other. yes we are competitive and we are greedy, but that is made worse by our current mentality of 'Make as much money as you can and f**k everyone else' and our worship of money. I hope it works, whether it will be allowed to work is another thing entirely :-)

It's vital to thoroughly assess a situation/idea critically and from all angles; it's not exactly hands across continents singing songs of peace and joy at the moment.

I would love to see it work, whether it can is another matter and whether it gets used as a platform for something more sinister is another matter all together.

But isnt this just socialism repackaged with a futuristic feel to it? Socialism has been tried many times in the past.

A socialist economic system would consist of an organisation of production to directly satisfy economic demands and human needs, so that goods and services would be produced directly for use instead of for private profit driven by the accumulation of capital, and accounting would be based on physical quantities, a common physical magnitude, or a direct measure of labour-time. Distribution of output would be based on the principle of individual contribution.

Don't get me wrong, obviously you have to be careful, but negativity 'the oh it won't work, so why bother, attitude' that many people have pisses me off, you only find out if something works if you try it, then if it doesn't work you use that experience to learn from :-)

True Socialism to my Knowledge has never been tried, most of what the MSM and most people believe as Communist or Socialist countries are actually State Capitalist dictatorships with which begs the question did any of these people read Karl Marx, I don't think so. :-)

maybe not on a wide scale but there has been countless hippie communes over the years but they always seem to fall apart after a while. I get the feeling there is something in human nature that just prevents us from achieving this way of living even if we are committed to it in the beginning.

I'm thinking that it might turn into a polygamists colony after few years

Do not agree with Venus project ideas because it is just another artificial utopia that disregards Human nature - but i wish them luck in this undertaking. Standing behind your own principles and building something to show that it works (or not) without harming anyone is a good thing, does not matter where you stand and what you think about their ideas.
