NBC's summer talent show "America's Got Talent" looked like it had found a new star this week in country singer Tim Poe, who came to the stage with a heart-tugging story: He's an Afghanistan war veteran who was injured by a rocket-propelled grenade, suffering brain damage and developing a stutter that he can only suppress while singing. But his tale might be too good to be true. Reports are now surfacing that Poe may have fabricated the whole story.

tv.yahoo.com...

The day when someone tries to fabricate a story about heroic war efforts is when a TV show loses all credibility. I first saw this audition last night and like most people watching the show, fell in love with Tim Poe. The war hero turned country singer has a lot of explaining to do if the rumors of his fabricated story turn out to be true. The rumors point out a lot of holes in his story. Like how he mistakenly said 14 years in service instead of 9. There is no record of his heroic story, and if his story about the grenade turns out to be true, why did he not receive some type of medal or award for his heroics?

There are a lot of questions in this story which NBC has refused to comment on.

Not to mention this season of AGT is probably the worst yet. There aren't really that many good auditions as we have seen in the past. The show is going down hill fast. But Howard Stern is not one of those problems. I actually find him quite refreshing!

I saw this performance and I didn't buy it for one second. If the stuttering came from a brain injury and not psychogenic or neurogenic, he would have stuttered through the whole song. Also, after he was done and spoke to Nick Cannon, he didnt stutter the whole time, I guess he forgot. It was funny because Nick looked at him and pointed it out haha, his reaction was priceless, but that verified it for me.

I hope they kick him off the show, not only for what he did, but also because he couldn't sing!!!!

If you look closely and pay attention you'll see that he is not actually playing that guitar. The whole show is a fraud.

I didn't watch the performance, but go look up Mel Tillis. He has a stutter which developed when he was still pretty young. Yet could sing without any indication of having it.

This is probably due to the fact that most people have their speech controlled by their left temporal lobe in their brains. Music, on the other hand, is known to be controlled by the right temporal lobe.

By singing instead of talking, it's thought that the right side takes over from the left, so the language center..which may be damaged isn't actually the part controlling the singing.

Now...back to the topic...

I don't see why someone who is claiming something who is a part of the show, if....proved to have been made up by the person, should negatively reflect on the show. If however, the SHOW itself....in an attempt to bolster ratings fabricated...or...maybe scripted the story...then it should be pulled off the air, and the creators, writers, producers, and anyone else involved should all be banished to Siberia for 15 years.

Besides...it's country music anyways I thought. Isn't that all fake?

Did you notice were I said he sustained a "brain injury" (supposedly) and not something "psychogenic" (i.e. Mel Tillis)??? There's a big difference there!!

Country music is as close to real life than any other music there is!

Well since the entire country music genre is founded on made-up sob stories designed to tug at America's freedom fries and heart strings, does this even surprise anybody?

It's actually pretty in-line with country-western culture:

- Make up sad story about losing something
- Be sure that, in the story, you lost it because you were personifying something distinctly American (religion, sports, cheap beer, military, 9/11, flags, etc)
- Profit!

Come to think about it, country music is pretty much just emo music for cowboys.

Is this really a surprise. The only thing more staged than those reality shows is the MSM.

I recall hearing about one of the contestant on flip this house that was basically paying people to stage the house and act like it sold when it had not. The show and its producers claim they had no idea. Yet they were there filming when the guy was planting plants that were still in the pot it was purchase in to make it look like the yard was totally redone. Afterward the scene he would go an remove all the plants again.

today.msnbc.msn.com...

Bottom line is there is no ethics, ideology nor concern to deceive people when it comes to money. Especially in the entertainment industry and of course politics , but some how people still refuse to label the MSM as part of the entertainment industry.

Mel Tillis's stutter was caused by childhood malaria which caused some PHYSICAL damage to his brain. Not some psychogenic cause.

I'm not saying I believe this guy for one minute. I'm merely pointing out some possible alternatives to the OP.

I have to agree with that statement.

Rarely watch the show, but i did last night, and the guy who was a Marylin Manson look a like that sung opera gave the story that his parents had never heard him sing, and he'd never sang in front of anyone. Find it incredibly difficult to believe someone could sing soprano opera in their room and never get heard by family.

The way they came up to him off stage and said "we had no idea" seemed so staged, as other events in he show did.

It's showbiz , and they play up the stories, and stage much of it, and its obvious.

I used to like AGT, only watch it inow if there's nothing better on the tube, but since last year have said the show lost its credibility. It's nearly all auditions and very little competition part left.

I do agree that its beyond the pale to make up a story about being a war hero. What I too question although I did like his singing, How do you get to be that age and not know you can sing. Same reaction with the the Goth they had on last night. The dude could sing, unforunate he sounded like a woman. (Monday and Tuesday programming nights are the pits in the summer, now that most of the other shows are replaced with something else or they are in reruns, such as NCIS.

As, for Howard Stern, just surprised they haven't had to bleep him, yet, the way they do Steven Tyler.

Piers Morgan showed how stupid he was to leave a show that had ratings, to try to revive a show that has very little ratings.

That's my take on AGT. Some of the other networks should really try to be original and try to give AGT a run for its money.

AGT and NBC had to have approved that story!!! Otherwise why would we care about a stuttering cowboy? He got the most time in the entire episode!
