Hi ATS.

I know the occupy movement is a bit dead and lacking in things they accomplished.
But it's not about the occupy movement in this thread.

It's about the police that showed humanity.
I know a lot of us on this site like to bash the police for a lot of things (and i'm no different, i admit that)

So that is why this vid brought a smile to my face

The police coming over to serve and protect the people... Blockupy Frankfurt. Police are escorting. Reports of an estimated 20,000+ protesters. Nice to see their faces.... and their humanity coming through...

My eyes couldn't believe what they were seeing... then I realized it wasn't in the United States.

What you are seeing is "intelligent policing". The police are escorting the protestors and keeping the peace at the same time. You can bet your last dollar that a crowd is much more likely to behave if they at least think the cops are on their side.

The did not throw their riot helmets to the side. The just took them off and smiled while walking in the same direction. IMHO they are doing the smartest thing a riot control officer can do. Smile and avoid looking like a bad ass that wants to fight. It is really hard to get mad and start a riot when the police are walking with you rather than standing against you.

Would you mind giving the link to the comment?
I'm neither pro nor contra occupy but as far as I know their camp was dissolved, tents confiscated, protests the days before prohibited by court decision.

Sorry, but giving the impression the police is marching in solidarity sounds a bit like propaganda (not by you) and I'm sure they got ordered to walk in front of them, maybe to calm down the situation.

BTW some guys here will not believe me but we have a law here in germany that can forbid any covering of the face, well at least if you are not a cop or don't wear a burka...

Police everywhere are supposed to be the protectors of the people. They are supposed to help when emergency situations arise to help the individual. They are supposed to be level headed and independent arbiters of peace between opposing factions.

Police are not paramilitary and should not function as the one who punishes the populace since we all have the judicial system for that purpose. Violators of the law should be taken to court and held responsible for their actions - this means the populace as well as the police should be held responsible for their knee jerk reactions which are illegal.

Killing a person is murder - even when the person who is murdered has broken the law - it is the responsibility of the Judicial System to provide punishment including the death of that individual when the LAWS provide that as the ultimate penalty.

A police person who kills at the least provocation should not be a police person.

It is FEAR of their own personal death that leads the police person to shoot even when provocation is real. I know this means that police should all be wearing Kevlar bullet proof clothing but isn't that already the standard issue of uniforms that they wear?

Police who shoot a perpetrator who is in the process of killing innocent by-standing people is not really the question in most people's minds - the question is why did the police shoot and/or kill someone who in retrospective investigations was assumed to be a perpetrator of violence when in fact they were not intent on doing violence.

"Legally licensed to carry concealed weapon man shot dead!"
"Elderly veteran shot and killed for inadvertently calling 911 through a 'I've fallen and can't get up' pager button!"
"Wrongfully shot and killed caged in bathroom pet (animal abuse) occurred at a wrong address bust in!"

The list goes on!

Police people who read this - please continue to be the protector of the populace. For those of you police who exact your own punishment of the people - karma will bite you in your butt - eventually!

It's almost like they are protecting the citizens.

Weird.

I wish they tried this method in other places as well, it seems a smile works better than a baton cracking off a shield sometimes....
