This isn't going to blow your mind, but thought I would throw it out into the ether.

I'm 26 and of sound mind.

I was 11 and my grandma was dying of cancer. She was in hospice care at her house which was about 15 minutes from my house. We would visit often and all knew it was only a matter of time.

I was at home one night and the phone rang. My mother answered it in her room. It was my grandpa calling her to inform of my grandma's passing. I heard she was crying and went in the room, knowing what had happened. My mother told me sit down on her bed along with her and she told me my grandma passed. We were both crying, me more than her, and she was comforting me. Minutes after I was lying on the bed, very upset as this was the first death I had really ever experienced. All of a sudden the main light in the room, attached to the ceiling fan, began to flicker on and off, for about 30 seconds. My mother and I were both comforted and she said that was my grandma saying eveything is ok.

Just some notes. The hallway light was also on and was stable and not flickering. There were no storms or anything of that nature at the time. This has never happened since.

Because of this I'm sure there is some sort of afterlife and based on many of the experiences I have read, electrical sabotage is a major commonality of paranormal experiences.

It should be noted my grandma was a church going good lady. I am not religious.

EDIT: To add a question, why do some people send messages after they pass and others don't?

I don't think the dead can send messages, but I believe God can.

The bible says when you die you go straight to judgement, heaven or hell.

No in-between or hanging about. About the light thing who know's... Maybe it was just a coincidence or satan playing tricks, but if nothing else happened after that, I wouldn't worry about it.

I believe the flickering light may have been a message from your grandma. She may have detected the sadness that you and your mother were feeling, and wanted to reassure you. (As your mom said)

I have a hallway light with a flaky switch (gotta fix it) connection that causes the light to flicker on and off all the time. It would be hard to claim paranormal activity there!
But...when a light that has exhibited thousands and thousands of hours of normal "dependable behavior" suddenly flickers at a time like you've described, it makes you wonder.

The "Dead," as humanity refers to, share the world with the living. Think of their word as a reflection of this one, only new, and pristine. Whatever you expect there becomes reality, and you create your own "heaven," or whatever you may call it. Some do not know they are dead, this causes hauntings, and sightings. These are chiefly around battlefields where a great many died. Gettysburg is a good example of this, many ghostly sighting have been made there. Some visit the living by sheer force of Spirit Energy, I myself have seen several Spiritual Manifestations of people formerly alive, in full figure apparition, with solid look. They always fade away into little dots, then the dots disappear.

When my grandad passed away, he appeared to my sister sitting on his bed. She was taking a nap there after the funeral.
That's what she told me anyway.
I see my grandad in my dreams all the time.
Who knows, maybe it was your gran after all.

The dead can send messages especially right after they have died.

When my grandfather died, a few hours later the sound of plastic trashcans being dragged through the street for a few minutes was heard by not just us but our neighbors on both sides. it was not trash night. and some of us even went outside to investigate while he sounds were happening. nobody could figure it out. the sound was loud too like it was happening right in front of the house.

At the same time the phone would ring and when we picked up it would be static.

Several family members including myself almost immediately started, and to this day still, doing gestures and actions that only he used to do.

I think they can communicate.

My dog did. she visited me shortly after her death too.
