Mubarak Sentenced to Life in Prison

In a crowded courtroom proceeding broadcast live on national television, Judge Ahmed Rifaat pronounced Mr. Mubarak and his former interior minister, Habib al Adli, guilty of accessory to murder and attempted murder of protesters. He acquitted six senior interior ministry officials who prosecutors had also accused of killing protesters.

The sentences for Messrs Mubarak and Adli, harsher than many expected, bring to a close a 10-month trial that has enthralled Egyptians. Coming in the midst of an unprecedented presidential election that pits a senior leader in the powerful Muslim Brotherhood against a stalwart member of Mr. Mubarak's old regime, the ruling may satisfy an Egyptian public yearning for symbolic justice.

But for others it also furthered the impression that Egypt's revolution has done little to reform or reshape the sprawling security apparatus

I didnt see much mentioned about the Military councils actions being discussed [Considering they are the ones in charge at the moment]. I guess Mubarak will take the grunt of this.

Seems to me there is plenty of blame to go around. I'm glad he had his day in court [For what it's worth] unlike Qaddafi.

Guy is lucky he did not get hung.

Wonder if he can pull some people
together to escape.

The Islamic Brotherhood wll make sure that his "life sentence" is no longer than a month or two.
They'll want to finish the job they started with Sadat.

He's pretty old. Spending the rest of his life in what is probably a relatively comfortable cell, with all amenities available to him IS getting off pretty lightly, but I guess Egypt wanted to show that they hadn't gone bloodthirsty with all their revolutioning, and could be counted as being generally level-headed.

I get the feeling I may have mentioned this to you before (or it may just be dejavu), but again, the Islamic Brotherhood/Muslim Brotherhood were NOT the ones responsible for the assassination of Anwar Sadat. The ones responsible for his assassination were the Egyptian Islamic Jihad, a completely different group, that disavows entering politcs, and would rather destroy the government than join it.

it feels like he is just the scapegoat and a bloody good distraction. just seems like the whole thing was influenced from an external entity so they could 'takeover', essentially. i'd be willing to bet some Egyptians actually think their revolution was successful....

Life in prision heard about this on the news and the also said a lot of people are not happy with the "verdict" to true he wasn't beaten and dragged through the streets like gadaffi.

Do not think justice has been served in Egypt at all.
