Our susceptibility to a solar flare could be a boom to the economy. Capitalism would prosper if everyone would have to rebuy things and the economy would flourish. It would force a lot of people down the pole in the middle class though

Just a thought, maybe it wasn't a mistake to set EVERYTHING we have to rely on now a days on electronics, Maybe just MAYBE we have bee set up since the start to fail once this one event happens again?
Think about it, all it takes is one, and we are stuck fending for ourselves for 4 months, ad that's long enough for any civilization to collapse.
Imagine.

A major series of solar flares would do so much damage it could be years not months without power and comms. A Mad-Max scenario.
the Electric Infrastructure Security Council, heard that the Sun will reach a critical stage of its cycle in 2013.
They fear a huge solar flare is due to erupt in 2013 — causing blackouts and global chaos.
The once-in-a-century disaster could see power grids crash, communication systems collapse, planes grounded, food supplies hit and the internet shut down.
Everything from home freezers to car sat navs would be affected.
The disaster could mirror the Great Solar Flare of 1859.
That wreaked horrendous damage across Europe and America — burning out telegraph wires across both continents.

Interresting theory.
Unfortunately I tend to disagree. I feel that those flares are artificially made. Hurricanes were artificially stirred (Project Stormfury, Wikipedia) and still are.

In fact, HAARP is designed to shoot into space. I hear HAARP is the biggest (NAVY funded) railgun on Earth. Officially it shoots radiation to the atmosphere to "study the reactions" (Wikipedia).

I fear that you are correct.
Scientists have stated that a major solar storm is coming. We know that the last time it happened it fried everything electrical switched on.
Why is nothing being done?

Yesterday, and I live in Northern Ireland by the way just to set you straight from the off, the moon was out in the afternoon, like at the same time as the sun was still up!
THE MOON WAS IN THE SAME SKY THAT WAS IN MY VIEW AT THE SAME TIME AS THE SUN!
WORRYING TIMES PEOPLE!
