I don't believe we have reached a 'Zombie Apocalypse'... yet. It's easy to forget that what we read in the news was also chosen FOR US to be news. Crazy things are occurring each and every day but are not placed in the media's spotlight, but what I notice is one or two cases of news reports comes out about a topic (usually of fear mongering, or hate producing), and before you know it, it spreads like wildfire in the minds of the readers, either by manipulating you into seeking out related news, or finding within reports a connection that further feeds into your interpretations. It's my opinion that these 'zombie' stories are simply being used by the media and the powers that be to instill a fear mongering "IDEA" into the minds of the masses, as fear is a great form of manipulation, allowing those to be vulnerable to persuasion/ideas.
Don't get me wrong, however, I DO believe there has been a legitimate increase in specific events occurring, such as in Seattle, where I live, the homicide rate has nearly quadrupled in comparison to past years.

Now, listen...

Don't go saying zombies aren't a threat or aren't real. Sure, they don't appear as they do in High School Of The Dead or Zombie land, as animated corpses, but they most certainly do exist.

This is how you know if you are in contact or in the presence of a zombie;

-- They are based around the most small, petty things life has to offer (money, drama, fighting, famous people, ect) and give no concern to big issues, or things that actually matter

-- They seem to have no empathy to the idea of others being hurt, sick, or dying, and joke constantly about killing babies, nazis, ect, (things that people wouldn't normally joke about that seem very morbid, basically) and have a strong sense of apathy to big issues, and tend not to listen to them when they're confronted about them

-- They support a president or political party without giving their supported president or party much question

-- They are easily angered or emotional about unimportant things

-- They don't question anything in everyday life

-- They have no true sense of reality and are often or easily confused

-- They take everything at face value and go along with it with no question, like the mainstream news

-- They are often bullies of some kind (not always, but often)

-- They have no ability to think logically when challenged to, and the answers they give to intelligent questions or statements are repetitive and make little or no sense, and aren't always relevant

-- They do feed on other people, but usually not physically, but rather emotionally, spiritually, and mentally. They will pick fights, intentionally anger others for no real reason, insult others even when they aren't provoked to, and they get their fill by creating a large chain of negative emotion from person to person

-- They appear to have no care for anything meaningful, and usually value petty and unimportant things

-- If you find yourself feeling a sense of pity or sorrow for the person because they have many of these symptoms, you have discovered a zombie of society.

I've been wanting to say the same thing since I even heard the term mentioned. There seems to be a trend on ATS where for a few weeks, or months, a specific topic dominates the thread count. News is cherry picked and completely blown out of proportion; you gave some good examples with the earthquake trend, solar flare/sunspot, etc. Yet at-least those still have some sense of theoretical credibility.

But a "zombie apocalypse"... is as cliched & sensationalized as it gets. A few recent cannibalism cases in a country of over 300 million people doesn't come close to anything of that nature; perhaps when half a city begins devouring each-other I'll consider the notion..

I feel like a zombie when I am hypnotized by my damn cell phone! Poeple driving while looking down on the their phone. Walking into things while looking down on phone. People grabbing the cell phone mindless of any others around. Seems to be an acceptable practice these days, but still seems rude to me that no one has the time of day for each other. Spiritually devoid in my opinion.

Has technology really brought us more together or are we all becoming walking zombies under it's technological trance. IPODs to close out the world, video games at home, porn... what ever happened to good ol' fashioned one on one communication? Maybe I am just too old and long for the time when things seemed real and genuine. As strange as this may be... these zombielike aggressive actions might yet be the beginning of something.

Good ol' Pharma I am sure they will take good care of us. Once we all have the chip... then what?

It would take half a city eating each other for you to think there might be a problem? Oh my!!!

You're absolutely right. I think it's the novelty of something new to talk about that makes even the most absurd things seem interesting. The way I see it, society is bored and looking for any opportunity to jump on a bandwagon. This just happens to be the one for this week. Thank GOD it's not nibiru or elenin again. Those were tough times!

Quick thread.
Straight to the point.

There is no "Zombie Apocalypse".

sounds like you're either in denial or think you're smarter than all the military minds the world has ever seen, combined.

Air Force Considered Gay 'Love Bomb' Against Enemies

if the OUR military thought up something as seemingly fringe and far feched as a "gay bomb" to turn enemy forces into homosexuals in order to preoccupy and distract them from their defensive occupations...

then surely some military mind somewhere in the past 100 years has either rei9nvigorated or thought up brand new.. the idea of turning the enemies into killing themselves... or re-animating dead soldiers to do the same...

Well, I'm only seventeen so I wouldn't come close to thinking that I'm smarter than the greatest military minds.
As for me being in denial, I don't think its necessary to say outlandish things like that just because I disagree
with something you may agree with.

Side question : People in the military are smart? I would have never knew that based on what I'm seeing in the world overseas.

Back to my point though, I never said "they" didn't come up with anything; (weapons specifically, because that seems like what your getting at) whether it be
chemical, psychological, biological, or nuclear. What I'm simply saying is that under the
current circumstances no one should be declaring that a city, state, or country is undergoing
a zombie apocalypse. Its childish in my opinion.

It would take a few people eating each-other to meet the terms for a "zombie apocalypse"? That should be the question. It's pretty asinine that anyone would even suggest it.

Of course the commonality appears to be '___' from bath salts, but it seems to turn people into raging cannibals so...

This is the defacto explanation offered by officials, but at least in the most prominent case (the Miami one), it seems difficult to make the connection. Initial toxicology results only show a presence of THC, which could be from previous days (especially since violence is the LAST thing on a stoner's mind).

I'm not buying it. Some of the cases seem more explained by the folks simply snapping and going out of their minds, so some psychological reason, but even then, what's the trigger? This is a VERY extreme reaction, and should be much rarer than it is. Just in the past two weeks, there are at least 8 different profile cases of such attacks.

Media hype and bandwagon, or the start of some kind of epidemic? Who knows. One thing I do know, is that this "bath salts" explanation seems a convenient scapegoat. This substance has been around for a while now, so why NOW is all this happening if caused by it? Simple, it doesn't fit.

Op, commending you for this post as I wanted to do the same thing.

The zombie threads are very annoying, and deserve their own forum. I seriously have not been active in a few weeks because I can't stand the constant derailing of threads, that deserve a just explaination, due to sci fi nuts who cling to something that is not even possible.

The history books are full of people who said things were impossible...that we now take for granted.

Unlikely? Absolutely. The "zombie" tag is just that...a tag for the phenomenon. I don't think any of us believe this is a sign of people waking up from the dead, etc. Just that the behavior is very zombie-like. (eating flesh, being shot without making it stop, etc.)

Especially this.

This is far and away, the most intriguing aspect of the phenomenon to me. I wouldn't put it past anyone to "eat flesh" these days just in an effort to garner attention in the media or what have you. But being shot and NOT reacting is a physical reaction you can't control. From the cavitation, to the system shock, to the force.

9mm and .40 S&W's have a way of sobering up even the most hysterical of junkies....why the heck didn't it in this case will have me wondering for a long time, and definitely doubting any official chemical report of "bath salts".
