Without a picture I can not identify what it is. As a light infantryman with recent overseas deployments I can attest, without a picture I can't help, sounds like one of the heat rays.......

Our tax dollars at work. We citizens are feeding the machine that is responsible for all of these atrocities. The US workforce is funding this hell on Earth.

Need to see this thing to fully understand what it is. Those afghan soldiers tend to be heavy on the hashish, so I would not fully trust his account. However, even if it was just a flamethrower, I thought those were banned in the Geneva Convention?

Sounds like a plasma cannon, short-ranged but nasty. This should make street fighting extremely decisive. Unfortunately things like this do come around from time to time. People keep saying things like "This new weapon is so terrible that its mere existence will end war forever." But they never do.

Any chance of some pics? It's fun reading and all but i would love to actually see it.

I remember hearing that some scientists figured out you can use a laser to (I think) ionize air along a path, and you can use that path to guide electricity. Perhaps this is a military application of that concept?

In the midst of the fighting, he noticed that the Americans had called up an oddly configured tank. Then to his amazement the tank suddenly let loose a blinding stream of what seemed like fire and lightning, engulfing a large passenger bus and three automobiles.

No, it's one of those times you realize we're all humans, whether American or Iraqi, and just because someone is on the other side doesn't mean they deserve to die this way, especially women and children. So we invade Iraq under false pretense, kill hundreds of thousands of civilians, bring out a super tank like this, killing hundreds more, and all you can think about is yourself and that at least it's your side who's "got that"?

Why would using it on us be any different than using it on innocent civilians elsewhere? Not everyone is guilty and deserving of death simply because they reside in a country we decided to invade and profit from.

this may be to little to late but this sounds a lot like science fiction becoming science fact. this weapon sounds like a fusion gun " A fuel source is atomically excited till fusion occurs. When the particals are forced out the barrel of the weapon great heat and light is produce enough energy to flash cook stone,metal,and flesh."

My source is some what obscure. Which might simply be predictive programing but if the Bosses are capable of creating have of the things in these "stories" then I agree with Mr. Dillon God pity us all.

intrptr has reminded us of a true by-product of large-scale/long-term killing that we send initially healthy citizens into, only to have them come out profoundly affected by what they've seen. With a real vision into what militaries are capable of doing to citizens, battle fatigue can and does extend perceptions into delusions. In the case of these horrific experiences, how is the delusion not a logical extension of what men and women in battle have seen?

Having said that, the technology of nightmares clearly does exist and has for a long time.

Possibly it's by being disillusioned and jaded by ATS for so long that I state this, but we all know "being tested" means "fully operational, we was testing long before we told you or you'd shut our asses down with your rights to vote and lobby the government"

They have land, air and sea versions.

The land laser is called MTHEL and the sea version is called LaWS

Great post, IpsissimusMagus. Staying informed of real and lethal military tech has never really been something I've been able to do without being deeply shocked by it, honestly. I claim my own ignorance in its lineage; I can't believe how long a lot of this stuff has been implemented. I remember when I first found out that laser was an acronym, and that I can thank the military for its very existence.

They were plasma gun-equipped tanks.

We've tested the hand-held variety a couple years back, as well.
Works nicely but shines like the sun. Not what we want right now.
