Yahoo News: Mitt Romney Holds Private Meeting With Rand Paul

That speculation is not going to be tamped down anytime soon. In fact, it may be that even the presumptive GOP Presidential nominee, Mitt Romney, sees a Presidential run in the younger Paul’s cards, if this report from National Review Online is any guide:

Sources close to Senator Rand Paul tell National Review Online that Paul and Mitt Romney had a private meeting on Wednesday. Details of the topics discussed are hazy, but Paul — the son of Texas congressman (and presidential candidate) Ron Paul — reportedly found the meeting productive.

Well Rand did recently stood up for Romney in a 15 minute interview, without ever mentioning his father.
Maybe his Paul support, whether Rand or Ron, is what's needed to push Mitt over Barack?

I realize Ron and Mitt are good friends off the "battlefield", as their wives are good friends too, but it's clearly too late in the game for him to make Ron his VP. (Maybe if Ron dropped out a few months ago)

I just hope, regardless, that RP atleast gets to speak to the country in Tampa. He deserves that for sticking in it to win it.

Not surprizing, if true. Rand Paul has been pandering to the establishment a lot lately. He doesn't seem to care much for his fathers movement, only about himself getting nominated in the future or on a ticket with Romney. It's pretty sad the position he's trying to force his father into.

If you think Ron is gonna support Mitt I doubt it, if he ever did I guarantee he'd lose half his supporters myself included.... Great news source too, I know yahoo isn't anti paul or anything....

These are conflicting times for Paul supporters I tell ya. Ron Paul is on the way out (he evidently will not gain the nomination and he is getting old), Rand Paul is the only one as of yet to continue carrying on that torch, and yet, the Paul's are getting cozy with the establishment.

People may call Rand Paul a sell out (and he is, like many of these tea party hacks in office) but Rand Paul is playing strategically as is his father. If Ron Paul hopes to continue his legacy through his son, and if Rand hopes to have a chance at the title come 2016 or 2020, they need all the support they can get. Either they make friendly with the GOP establishment or they form a third party, there's just no other apparent way.

Personally I’d like to see the latter. I think the GOP (and the two-party system) needs to be broken up.

Far too many elections have gone by where many of us have had no representation at all.

I think the OP specifically mentioned the Rand might have presidential aspirations and that Romney recognized such.

I think it is also pretty thoroughly implied that this may have been a VP discussion.

I must also say that this is also a wise move on Romney's side. If there was ever the ideal VP for these elections, that would either be Rand or Ron Paul. I say ideal in the sense of Romney needing votes and support. Romney doesn't need to worry all that much about the tea party vote in general, they only care to get Obama out of office. He doesn't need to worry about Gingrich or Santorum supporters, they are automatically transferable. Paul supporters make up a good 10% of the GOP, Romney needs them. He needs to gather as much support as he can against the Obama machine.

I already know that Paul supporters will deny that they'd support a Romney ticket even with one of the Pauls on it, but I beg to differ.

Rand Paul is NOT his father. He will not magically turn into him either if he's elected.

Strategically, I agree with you 100%. If I were a Romney supporter, I would be thrilled to have a Rand Paul VP, because it could unite the party and force Ron to ease back a little and play nice. It is the perfect strategic move.

I would hope that both Rand and Ron would have the integrity to refuse such an offer, since their political views are not close enough to the views of Romney to make the marriage work, but that is probably just wishful thinking from a RP supporter.

The VP does nothing,,Ron Paul or NO GO BRO...With rand as VP , We will still go down the same path, Rand shares most of his fathers philosophy, wouldnt matter, like I said VP does nada,,Romney will do what he wants or better yet what Bank of America want him to do just like Obama,,,,,,,,,Rand Paul as VP wont save us..but may get a few Paul votes?

No, as far as I'm concerned you're making the most sense. It's no secret what Ron Paul supporters think of Rand and even members of their own campaign. Many Ron Paul supporters are extremely alert to corruption and inner dealings, things will be called into question in something truly reminiscent of "blind justice". There is clear evidence in this in the streams and broadcasts of fraud and trickery from the Romney campaign. The Ron Paul movement has been largely transparent and that will come to bite it in the butt if it is corrupted. I trust Ron Paul supporters do not support a person "just because" and they wouldn't support Rand blindly either, he is held to the same light as every other politician. Liberty Republicans ARE Liberty Republicans, not a member of the (R) team.

Isn't that actually part of the motivation behind the alleged liberty movement in the first place? To expose corruption and concentrate on the path to progression and freedom?

A Rand Paul VP is a huge windfall for Romney, but it doesn't do anything except tarnish the Pauls. I don't think he would accept it. If he refuses the nomination and runs on his own in 2016, he'll be better off. I highly expect either Rand or Huntsman to be the clear frontrunner in 2016 after some house-cleaning in the Republican party. I really hope Rand doesn't go looking for instant gratification by selling out to Romney and running a losing campaign against a powerful incumbent Obama.

For Romney it makes perfect sense, for Rand Paul it is a career killer.

If I could venture to say such a thing, might I suggest that the motivation behind OWS, the Tea party, the Ron Paul campaign and all of the modern protests have been grounded in a growing paradigm. With one generation moving on and leaving the torch to a selected group of individuals, the country grows farther and farther apart. Society drifts while its control structure remains the same resulting in an inevitable crisis. A nation is moving away from it's old values while its values are moving away from what they are supposed to represent.

Now America is a massive multicultural, multiracial melting pot of all the world; a true test of the boundaries of what a society can be and a testament to the creativity of the freedom of men and women. The condition is ripe for the birth of a new era of human progression, we need to take it.

We are knee-deep in the crisis you described.

I have said for a couple of years now that the extreme right and extreme left have more in common than all the folks in the middle. The middle seems to be so tuned in to MSM, and so victimized by the divide and conquer rhetoric that they are entirely useless. Compromise used to be a good thing, but now we have compromised ourselves right out of the driver's seat in economy, education, and liberties. Instead of the two sides working together to find the best solutions, they take the least offensive from all the plans and compromise on things that are entirely useless, like the stupid Super Congress.

I hope the OWS, Paulites, and Tea Partiers can join forces and find their commonalities and make a significant change in the country. If they don't, then this becomes a failed experiment in democracy and we go back to the drawing boards.

Yea, I have a feeling that throughout history there have been times when all things come together and that this is when history is made. We might be naive to think that somehow in the 21st century we are exempt from that social trend. The social revolution will continue and push our species past whatever boundaries lay before it.

I think that's a foundation of libertarianism and the reason why our country exists, constant revolution and adaptation, constructive chaos. You can't have too much order without chaos for balance.

The way I see it, it's our civic duty to oppose authority and institute the proper authority. That's our job as Americans. We know power corrupts, we can, will and should be able to fight it on all fronts.

Just today I was reading of the efforts of a man named Thomas Nast, who is no less than an American hero and brought down a corrupt empire with little more than cartoons. This was a few hundred years ago.

When they offered him a *very* generous bribe for the time, he said:

"I don't think I'll do it."

That's it.

Just... "no, I'm not going to do that"...

A corrupt empire fell, New York city changed.

I think Mitt will do the biggest flip flop in his career if he is elected president. I think he will turn his back on the establishment. Rand, Ron, Mitt they are all in on it. Ive had that feeling for the past 7-8 months. Of course Ron Paul is number 1 to me but if he doesn't run 3rd party, he won't win. With that said, Ill vote for Romney just because of the possibility that he could flip flop after elected. Obama has to go and the only way that will happen is if Romney gets votes. If my feeling is wrong, we'll just get the same thing Obama has been giving us.
I think it's time us Ron Paul supporters start thinking about that.
Ill keep supporting and rooting for Ron Paul up until the RNC and after that, I will vote for Romney if it helps him beat Obama.
Trust Rand too, maybe he is trying to infiltrate the other side.He may gain the support of the establishment and he may win the presidency in the future and he could do the flip flop and turn his back on the elites that back him. The conspiracy theorist Ron Paul supporters should be able to see this.

Anything is possible but with the Pauls around Romney, something is going on.
