Cable TV preaching the religion of Capitalism.

The continuing economic troubles in Europe and the US has put capitalism in the spotlight. Normally under economic distress the electorate usually swings left towards socialism. The US swung to the left on 2008 and it remains to to be seen what direction we will shift in 2012. Mexico currently has a right leaning government but the left seems to be surging with a presidential election coming up there.

I have to wonder about media and its programing going on in the US today. Is it designed and deliberate of does programing swing by what the public demands?

Pawn Stars, American Pickers, Swamp People, Ice Road Truckers, Ax Men, American Restoration, Storage Wars, Auction Kings, Deadliest Catch Gold Rush and countless other programs of late are all about what we have been told was the American dream, Capitalism. Harvesting raw materials for profit, or capitalizing on others for profit.

Is this engineered social engineering or just a natural swing in viewership tastes?

Is the MSM attempting to program us?

I think you're reading a little too much into it.

Usually when a new format show becomes successful, it leads to a slew of copycat and spin offs as other networks attempt to cash in on the popularity, that is all you're observing. If people didn't watch the shows, they wouldn't make them. All the networks care about is revenue, mostly from advertising.

If millions of people suddenly took to watching Ice Melting 2012, there would be a slew of Ice related shows on it's coat tails, such as "Ice Forming" and the new season spectacular "Ice Moving Very Slowly Down a Mountainside"...

What the the TVs are pushing is crony corporatisn, or fascism, or even communism...
certainly its brainwashing ( it works or no one would pay for advertising )

"Reality TV" is cheap, and personally I find some of it quite interesting - it gives me a small insight into how some people make their living that I would never otherwise know about.

sure they are often extraordinary examples of ordinary people (eg more extroverted or photogenic or articulate or whatever than "average"), but none-the-less I often find the shows interesting from the simple p.o.v. that it is new to me.
